Venturous Randy Posted September 21, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 21, 2011 As I noted in my post on Rick,s "Rookie Mistake" thread, yesterday while going very slow and coming to a stop while encountering some very fine gravel, I slid the front tire and went down. Fortunately, other than busting up my left fairing, we were able to get up and go on. It now appears I may have encountered a delayed injury. About 4:30 today my right eye went very blurry and I am also seeing areas of red. I went to the local VA because I was not sure if I had had a light stroke or what. At the moment I either may have a detached retina or a Vitreous Hemorrhage. The big question I got was have I done anything to exert myself and I said yep, yesterday I picked up an 800 pound motorcycle that I dropped. RandyA DOnt wait!!! i did when I had my detached retina and I now have impaired vision in my left eye as a result of the edges of the retina tear dying and scar tissue forming. I would advise going to an ER and get it looked asap! If i had gone to an ER instead of my eye doctor i was told my vision would be much better in the left eye. My retina surgeon told me that he gets emergency calls at all hours as time is everything to get good vision restored. Like a good friend of mine sometimes says,"Man it sucks to get old". Hope all turns OK for you. Listen to the doc and do as they say. Your eyes are very delicate and very precious. And to prepare for the next time that it might happen that the scooter should fall over,,,, learn how to get it up right without a lot of effort,,, by yourself, it ain't hard to do. Mad at himself for dropping the bike, said Ms. Linda was ok just a little sore and stiff. Will update if I hear more ... One sunday morning my wife's vision in her left eye went blank. We went to the emergency room at approx 10:00am. They ran all kind of test that didn't have anything to do with her eyes. EKG, MRI etc. They then wanted to keep her overnight. The next day at 4:00pm after running every expensive test you can think of they decided to send her to an optomologist. The optomologist said she had a detached retina and it was urgent to get it corrected immediatley. He said the longer you wait the greater chance you won't get your sight back. He called a specialist from Tallahassee Florida and scheduled her for surgery the next morining. This surgery is so specialized even an optomologist can't do the surgery. The surgery went well and she got all of her sight back. Don't waste your time in the ER with regular medical doctors. Please, please get to an optomologist immediately. I have a 1:00 appointment at the retina center, which is our local eye hospital. So far it looks like a vitreous hemorrhage and some blood around the retina, but not a detached retina. Grisolm1 Posted September 21, 2011 Share #16 Posted September 21, 2011 Timely post. Just went to the eye Dr yesterday. Virtuous detachment accompanied with "floaters". Said should clear up but suggested drinking lots of water and most importantly fish oil capsules. He said fish oil will take about 6 weeks to have effect. Internal dehydration thing as we get older. Am glad to hear that its probabaly not a detached retina, but the blood in the eye issue is still serious. Keep pushing them on it and dont let them put you off. We aren't as young as we once were (although we may still FEEL indestructible), we can't be pushing ourselves like we used to. Take a moment to assess the situation and remember to consider that you aren't 18 anymore and you probably need help. Sorry to her about this happening to you and Linda. Hope it goes well tomorrow and have linda call me when you get out of surgery. Like I say my bike is available for yall to ride if you bacome available to ride soon. Once or twice since my hernia surgery I let the bike lean a little far and was scared of more damage. Sat here all day sunday and wanted to call you and go for a ride. wished I had called now. Especially after I realized it was the third sunday. Love ya dad and hope you get better. Venturous Randy Posted September 22, 2011 Author Share #21 Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) I was at the eye clinic at the VA at 7:30 this morning and they were able to work me in pretty quick. After a lot of very bright lights shining in both eyes, they sent me to our main civilian eye hospital. This was for a review with an eye surgeon. After another round of being dilated again and a lot more bright lights, the determination is a big time ruptured blood vessel. It is so bad that the doctor has me set up for surgery at 9am tomorrow. This will consist of having the gel taken out of my eye and the leaking blood vessel hopefully fixed. Then, a bubble will be put into the eye to give it the correct shape. The vision I end up with could range from one end to the other, but probably not as good as it was. So this is just another one of the things I am having to deal with after loosing my job at the end of June. Well, anyway, Sunday is my 61th birthday. I had it done last year and the bubble in your eye messes up your balance slightly as it constantly shifts as your head moves from side to side. You wont have much vision in that eye until the bubble is gone, so try not to worry about it. After 4 -6 weeks you should be back to normal and will be a bit more sensitvie to light than you were before. If you need any more info Randy please feel free to call or message anytime.
