Today the throttle cable on my 88 VR broke while on a ride. Fortunately, I was close to home.

The throttle cable broke 26 months and 22,000 miles ago. Is this a problem with 1st-gen Ventures? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent this seemingly premature wear?

I had a GS1100GK Suzuki before the Venture. In 9 years and 100,000 miles of use on that Suzuki, I didn't replace the throttle cable once.

I still have the one that came with the bike in 1987' date=' i do lube it twice a year bike has about 50000 miles no problems[/quote']

I dont want to hijack this thread, but what is the easiest method to lube the cables? I picked up a cable lube tool but I am having trouble envisioning how to use it.

Same question as Brian. I think it was Rocket that recently told me he also had to replace his cable, and it is an awkward job.

Best place is at the junction block (get at all 4 cables), but it is behind the entire left fairing, next to frame. Lubing tool gets clamped onto the cable near the end, there is a small hole in rubber for the cable lube straw to stick into luber tool. Spray lube in until lube comes out other end (should see lube dipping out), if cable clamped good enough, no leakage coming out of luber itself.
