geep Posted September 14, 2011 #51 Posted September 14, 2011 Really a telling tell of the state of Yamaha when this is a link on the Canadian website ABOVE the 2012 introduction http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/promos/?group=M&id=142
Sylvester Posted September 14, 2011 #52 Posted September 14, 2011 Boring, that is the best I can say. Polaris and Kawasaki are making touring bikes, but poor old Yamaha keeps resurrecting the ages old V-4 Ventures/RSTD. I love my RSMV but I expect some new technology form Yamaha.
Ryana7769 Posted September 14, 2011 #53 Posted September 14, 2011 It's English for Metallic Black:confused07: or maybe METRIC black
FuzzyRSTD Posted September 14, 2011 #55 Posted September 14, 2011 I thought the Venture came with the saddle bag side guards that wrap around with the reflector on them. I do not see any on the 2012 model ? I have always thought that all the Ventures came with these. Matter of fact I have been looking for a set for my RSTD. I found one set but has no attachment bolts and the chrome spacers. Fuzzy
DragonRider Posted September 14, 2011 #56 Posted September 14, 2011 Nothing changed on any of their models except maybe paint color............At least Harley keeps introducing new models or upgrades to their older models....................................
Sleeperhawk Posted September 14, 2011 #57 Posted September 14, 2011 Maybe mistaken, but the warranty is now a 5 year "limited" warranty. Hmmm, does that mean they no longer replace the shock after say 20,000 miles on the bike?
bj66 Posted September 14, 2011 #58 Posted September 14, 2011 Glad I jumped ship last year. 2 years ago, I was mad that they didnt change anything. After talking to a regional head at the Yamaha tent at Sturgis a few years ago, I knew they werent gonna change anything. I was pissed that they didnt have a venture or a Rstd there at all. That alone said volumes. I'm not surprised they didnt change it again. Its a good thing for me that there are some good people on this site or I'd be long gone.
Mariner Fan Posted September 15, 2011 #59 Posted September 15, 2011 I'm not upset that they haven't changed the bike. I still like mine, and still have a year left on the warranty. Now, if they do decide to do something next year to the bike that still keeps the cruiser styling and comfort of the Second Gen. along with upgrades I'd be very interested! Timing is everything. If Yamaha decides to go back to a Goldwing copy, I'd have to pass.
eusa1 Posted September 15, 2011 #60 Posted September 15, 2011 booo wine fussss.... if your ready to trade and wanted a new yamaha... well then i wish you could have your wish.. however, if your not ready to trade and your enjoying your rsv or your tour deluxe.. well then your in luck... because you just recieved another year of added value!! congrads!! i have 1 of each and have no wants to trade.
CrazyHorse Posted September 15, 2011 #61 Posted September 15, 2011 I don't believe a drum roll was required...a long yawn would suffice...next bike will say HD on the tank...sorry Yamaha A BMW 1600 for me. Screw Yamaha Im tired of waiting for the same old BS.
SilvrT Posted September 15, 2011 #62 Posted September 15, 2011 well, this should keep the resale value at a respectable amount..... (I hope)
Rick Haywood Posted September 15, 2011 #63 Posted September 15, 2011 I noticed that a couple of the biggest complainers don't even ride the Royal Star Venture. I like mine. I like the styling and the ride and the looks. Really the only things I would have liked to seen was fuel injectiion and anti lock rear brake. Other that than I don't want them to change much. If I wanted to ride a bike that looks and rides like a gold wing I'd buy one. I'd have a Electra glide except for two reason, Cost and air cooled.
BradT Posted September 15, 2011 #64 Posted September 15, 2011 At least in Canada it is shown as an "unlimited" warranty still.... for now. I saw a Venture in Brantford (about 4 years ago) that had a 1,200 charge for the 5yr extended warranty. This was on the Price tag that hung from the handlebars Brad
Freebird Posted September 15, 2011 #65 Posted September 15, 2011 I agree with Rick that the bike needs very few changes. I've had mine for well over 12 years now and it's the first bike that I have ever owned for more than about a year. Yes, I've looked at others over the years. I think the Ultra Classic is a beautiful bike and I am intrigued by the new Victory Cross Country but neither excite me enough to replace my RSV with one. Fuel injection might be nice but I'm not unhappy with the way my carbs work. Cassette deck? Who cares. It is hidden anyway and mine is long gone and replaced with gauges. I really prefer NOT having a built in NAV system and/or satellite radio. I have XM, NAV and MP3 in my Garmin and much prefer that to any built in system because I can move mine back and forth from the bike to my work car. Yes, it would be nice to see Yamaha make some changes. It would add some new excitement to the line. For me though, I'm still pretty happy with the RSV. My biggest fear is that when they finally DO update it, they will go to more of the Goldwing or even sport touring type format. I love the cruiser styling and if they did that, it would mean that when I finally DO get ready to buy a new bike, I would be looking at the Ultra or the Cross Country.
myminpins Posted September 15, 2011 #66 Posted September 15, 2011 The thing that still ticks me off big time is the 2011 is STILL $23,800. Why??? The Canadian dollar has been as good as and sometimes even better than the American dollar for a good year or so now. Why do we have to pay SO much more PLUS 15% tax on top of that??? This is why we purchased privately. If we could get your guys' price in the US, we'd have bought from a dealer, gotten some warranty, etc., but the prices are just way too high around here. (At a dealer, 2006 model is still $14,000!!!)
Mike G in SC Posted September 15, 2011 #67 Posted September 15, 2011 ZZZZZZ,,,, hey, I just woke up,,, is it Y2K yet,,, did I miss anything,,, Nope,,, everything is same-same. Hey, but back to my favorite two colors,,,, Black and Chrome!!! Dropped the stupid flame decal. As much as I would like to see them do upgrades, any 2012 is better than none. Means they added another year of support system for the 1999-2011, and aftermarket parts may hold on longer. I'm okay but,,,,,,I wasn't looking to buy this year. Mike G
Stache Posted September 15, 2011 #69 Posted September 15, 2011 Nothing changed on any of their models except maybe paint color............At least Harley keeps introducing new models or upgrades to their older models.................................... If Yamaha's hit the sweet spot, why mess with it. (Keep trying HD, you'll get it right sooner or later)
RWillie Posted September 15, 2011 #70 Posted September 15, 2011 :dancefool:Wooo Hoo the cassette deck is still in the 2012 model. Wow and their going to throw in a Ipod. Still think the space could be better used for an XM radio or such. On an upbeat note J&M now offers a harness and Blu-tooth module to link all your onboard audio/CB to their blu-tooth headsets. Now we can have the best of both worlds.
Freebird Posted September 15, 2011 #71 Posted September 15, 2011 Well, if it had a built in XM or Sirius, that just means that I would have to pay for yet another subscription. I much prefer my stand alone unit in the Garmin 665 that I can move around from one vehicle to another. I honestly am surprised that anybody expected to see anything new. If there was an entirely new RSV on the radar, there would have been at least SOME leaked information about it. I never expected to see any updates to the current bike. If and when we see a new Venture, I fully expect that it will be totally new, not just small changes to what we have now. It does worry me a bit that they made updates to the Stratoliner. NAV system and etc. They appear to be moving it more and more towards a full blown tourer. About the only things remaining are a tour pak and cruise control. Not sure if it has intercom or not but those are very simple things to ad. I HOPE that is not the future of the Venture. I think it's a nice bike but certainly not a Venture.
aharbi Posted September 15, 2011 #72 Posted September 15, 2011 change is not always good. hummm... Obama comes to mind
rickardracing Posted September 15, 2011 #73 Posted September 15, 2011 I love my 07 RSV. Cassette deck is gone. I made and installed a guage faceplate. As far as an I-pod, there was always a jack next to the cassette deck you could plug an ipod into. Once you remove the deck, run another cord out to the handlebars, get a Ram Mount for your favorite MP3 or IPod and your all set. Cost of cord and mount is less than $60. As far as the Factory cd player, why bother? Now if I was in the market for a new bike......Kawasaki here I come.
LilBeaver Posted September 15, 2011 #74 Posted September 15, 2011 ... Kawasaki here I come. http://planetsmilies.net/vomit-smiley-9529.gif Well, maybe that is just me :stickpoke: --- I have a music player that never runs out of batteries, can hold a reasonable amount of music, can be controlled by the handlebar mounted control and is integrated into the audio system. Yup, you guessed it. The cassette deck - I still use mine. When I want to listen to something else I just use the Aux plug. I think Yamaha did a great job engineering this well rounded setup. They allow for folks to choose between the radio, cassette, CD AND whatever the heck else you want to plug in. And even include a 12V power port right up front. I still do not understand why people have such a problem with having MORE options. An 'iPod' dock would tick me right off as it could ONLY be used with an 'iPod' instead of this AUX port that can be used with ANYTHING that has an audio out. Anyhoo, I know this is one of those never ending discussions. Regardless, I am happy that the value of my bike will not plummet this year - any more than standard depreciation would do to it anyways.
Stache Posted September 15, 2011 #75 Posted September 15, 2011 ...I am happy that the value of my bike will not plummet this year... I've always felt that the (monetary) value of a thing is determined by the amount you sell it for. If I don't sell it, and have no intention of selling it, I guess that makes my RSTD PRICELESS....
