It ain't just the Canadian Military, the US Army is nuts to.

Years ago I had to pick up a prototype of the M-60 tank to transport to Balitmore to send to the Paris Air show. Got it loaded up on a drop trailer and the commander came out and instructed me to tarp it up. Well, I'm not geared to tarp a tank so they radioed for a crew to come wrap it up. Sixteen guys, 23 seperate tarps and God knows how many bungie straps and 3 hours later it was done. Weird. It still looked like a tank.

Tarp a tank? Guess they were worried about the paint job.

The CB chatter was interesting on the trip. "What ya got there?"

"Well I don't know for sure but they told me it was NOT a tank!"

Have hauled some strange loads in my life but that chopper is cool.

Maybe its one of them newfangled stealth helies that don't exist.....

It sure looks like someone made an effort at a feeble attempt to disguise the shape.

When we deployed our army helos overseas, we shrinkwraped them same as above prior to loading on a ship. Aluminum airframes don't like salt water/air.

quite an exercise to watch, an deployment.

We have also done deployments overseas by airforce cargo planes, trucks in c141's and helos in c5/c17's. For this even more teardown, for the CH47 the entire rear pylon needs to come off, but no shrink wrap.

Regular Army typically does not fly direct overseas, due to the serious # of hours that would be placed on the aircraft, then all the parts that would need replaced because they were at their lifetime hour limits (TBO-time between overhaul), engines, rotor blades, transmissions, etc.

Maybe Canada forces deploying somewhere?

Sucks coming into combat zone and have to put all these helo's back together again before you can start missions. Came into port in Mogidisu Somelia, and off load aircraft from ships, then reassembled on the docks, working 24-7. At night under tower lights. One night sniper rounds started bounching off the docks, killed the lights, called it a night and let the Marines go looking for the sniper. Thank god for the Marines!

What about the overpasses? Looks too tall.

Far as I know, it was fine. It came via the 100 series highways, where all underpasses are a minimum of 13'6" so it fit okay I guess.

Maybe Canada forces deploying somewhere?

Well, Shearwater is due a bunch of new helis so who really knows? Was definitely a sight, that's for sure!!! :D

:D

Seems it was, indeed, one of our new Cyclone helicopters:

Interesting, with the radar dome on the bottom and I see a torpedo on the side it looks like it's used as a submarine hunter in addition to a troop carrier. I did ASW when I was in the Navy with the Kaman SH2F Seasprite, I have always loved Helo's
