reddevilmedic Posted September 8, 2011 #1 Posted September 8, 2011 i was thinking about a magnetic tank bag. i was going to mount three plates of metal to the underside of my false tank cover. but then, got to thinking, i remounted the tci to the air box. will the magnets mess with it? any thoughts? has anyone tried this?
buddy Posted September 8, 2011 #2 Posted September 8, 2011 You will be OK as long you do not mount one right above the TCI itself mount them off to the side of the unit about 3"or more if you can and you will be OK Done this to my 83 model and had no problems with it.
MasterGuns Posted September 8, 2011 #4 Posted September 8, 2011 I think that would depend on the gauss strength of the magnet.
Grisolm1 Posted September 8, 2011 #5 Posted September 8, 2011 Highly unlikey you will have a problem. 1. As long as the metal strips more or less cover the area under the magnets the magnetic fields will mostly follow the path thru the metal and back to the magnets 2. I have seen the PCB of the TCI. I don't remember seeing any inductors, relays or coils, (components that would see effects of strong magnetic fields). But wasn't specifically looking for them, this is just my reccolection. 3. Magnetic fields decay very quickly with distance.
mike042 Posted September 8, 2011 #6 Posted September 8, 2011 how about one of those green light caller magnets you mount under the frame? all electromic are still in original place on my 83.
reddevilmedic Posted September 9, 2011 Author #7 Posted September 9, 2011 well most tank bags have mags in them now. i was going to mount metal plates to the underside of the tank cover, directly under the bag. that way i can still just "pull" the bag off and take it with me.
