Trader Posted September 7, 2011 #1 Posted September 7, 2011 A lot of us like riding because of the feeling of freedom....or even "flying". Imagine what this must be like! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgdIE2t8QkM?****
Flyinfool Posted September 7, 2011 #2 Posted September 7, 2011 There is a reason his flight suit is yellow......... The engines used are the same ones that are popular on radio control model jets. I have a jet with one of those engines in it. This guy is nuts. But then I do have my private pilots license and flying is a lot of fun.
Greekdog Posted September 7, 2011 #3 Posted September 7, 2011 That was awsome...what a feeling that must have been....wonder how long the actual flight time was....another 20 years or so and this will probably be a routine site.....Orville and Wilber would have loved this.....
coy55boy Posted September 7, 2011 #4 Posted September 7, 2011 I wonder if there's an app for that I can add to my Wing?
darthandy Posted September 7, 2011 #5 Posted September 7, 2011 Out of curiosity, I looked up his site and checked out the details of the "wing". Here are the listed performance figures (I added the conversion from metric): PERFORMANCE Speed - Average 200 km/h (125 mph) - At Ascent 180 km/h (112 mph) - On Descent 300 km/h (188 mph) Climb 330 m/min (1,072 ft. / min.) Flight time 10 minutes I would be scared to death to do it but would give anything to try it! Jeez, what a blast!! Andy
BuddyRich Posted September 7, 2011 #7 Posted September 7, 2011 He just needs a skateboard strapped to his chest for landings.....
Trader Posted September 7, 2011 Author #8 Posted September 7, 2011 I had to wonder why the helicopter drop? Why wouldn't he just "cliff dive"? I am assuming there wouldn't be enough thrust (or lift) to allow him to take off from land or even from a low roof-top

Yama Mama Posted September 7, 2011 #10 Posted September 7, 2011 That was an amazing video for sure. I know I would never have the courage to do that, but it must have been really a flight of a life time. Thanks for sharing that with us, I really enjoyed watching it. Yama Mama
Yammer Dan Posted September 7, 2011 #11 Posted September 7, 2011 He is getting close to knowing what it is like to drop the hammer on "Brown Sugar" at about 7k.:whistling: I would love to try that....I think.
Flyinfool Posted September 7, 2011 #12 Posted September 7, 2011 Even if I had that wing strapped to my back, you aint gonna git me to jump off or out of a perfectly good aircraft. Nope not me...... Knowing what those engines are, and looking at the size of the fuel tanks, I would guess that he can get 7-10 minutes of power depending on throttle usage.
FuzzyRSTD Posted September 7, 2011 #13 Posted September 7, 2011 Thanks for posting this. That was something to watch. Someone mentioned "Orville and Wilber would have loved this." I was thinking the same thing. Awesome, yes a once in a life time thing....... but not me. I could feel the jitters in my stomach and still do as of now. For me I would rather be on two wheels, and well,,, feeling allllllmost..... the same thing, and I do not have to have a pilot license or jet fuel. Wowww.....that is plum crazy man. Fuzzy
Lone Eagle Posted September 7, 2011 #14 Posted September 7, 2011 That was awesome, thanks for sharing! I might have to think that that apperatus on this back is made out of some kind of carbon fiber material - that looked heavy either way!
kenw Posted September 8, 2011 #15 Posted September 8, 2011 AWSUM!!!!! But my suit would have been yellow and brown!
reddevilmedic Posted September 8, 2011 #16 Posted September 8, 2011 very cool. did hang-gliding one time at nags head. very scarily awesome! i will stick to my usual stuff: skydiving, scuba, mtb, camping, hiking, hunting, bodysurfing, and riding!
CaptainJoe Posted September 8, 2011 #17 Posted September 8, 2011 Sweeeeet!... Although, Not very practical without control surfaces on wing. Looks like he's steering with his hands. Minor course adjustments at best? Of course in the Grand Canyon what more would you need... Also, Needs to detach from that machine and do seperate landings. Looks like he could get hurt permanent with that thing strapped to his back...
kenw Posted September 9, 2011 #18 Posted September 9, 2011 Try this if your a flying squirrel wanna be!!! http://www.wimp.com/grindingcrack/
