SteveW Posted September 7, 2011 #51 Posted September 7, 2011 Hi Don What ever works best for you works for me. I liked the Old one myself.
Rocket Posted September 7, 2011 #52 Posted September 7, 2011 Yea, it did get hijacked. Sorry about that but let's get back on track now. Still looking for input on the classifieds. So far, it sounds like MOST like the old system better. Still want to hear from more of you though. Old way......... Don, depending on the "old" software, there are ways of making them work in Win7. As a tech, I have found that out and have solved a number of incompatability issues here at work which has saved this company a lot of money and grief. PM me on this if you wish, I'd be happy to help if I can. Rick Maybe XP Compatability mode setting, in the properties.
SilvrT Posted September 7, 2011 #53 Posted September 7, 2011 Old way......... Maybe XP Compatability mode setting, in the properties. As I mentioned to Don, XP compatibility mode can also be used on the installer if the app won't install normally. This sometimes works. Aside from that, one can download for free Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/ This is quite different from XP Compatability Mode and gives you a separate "virtual" computer running Windows XP where you can install any number of apps and run them as though you are still in Windows XP. Moreover, you can create another "virtual PC" and install Windows98 or Linux, or whatever...
DragonRider Posted September 7, 2011 #54 Posted September 7, 2011 I only used the auction portion, and it worked great for me..................so old one I guess.
XV1100SE Posted September 7, 2011 #55 Posted September 7, 2011 Another vote for the old way. Not really hijacking the thread but in the VRStore.... are all the items still available? Not sure if this area needs a little house keeping.
Freebird Posted September 7, 2011 Author #57 Posted September 7, 2011 Well, based upon the responses here and a good number of messages that I have received, I guess I need to go back to the old way. Now there is still the issue of ads expiring for no reason that our member vendors post. So because of that, I am going to leave a small section in the forum for folks like Skydoc, Carbon_One, Rick Butler and etc. Maybe I'll remove it later if I ever get the problem resolved. Other than that though, I will be removing the other forum based classifieds and am opening the old classifieds back up for posting right now. If you have items listed in the forum classifieds, feel free to start re-posting them in the original classifieds. There is still a link to them in the upper menu bar here.
Mike G in SC Posted September 7, 2011 #58 Posted September 7, 2011 Wow, Thanks, Glad you asked us. Mike G
XV1100SE Posted September 7, 2011 #59 Posted September 7, 2011 And the VRStore? Are all items current?
ventourer Posted September 7, 2011 #60 Posted September 7, 2011 Are the classifieds not accessible to trial members? I can understand if there not. The ones I can view looks to be quite old and I cant find any vendor adds. Your hard work on this site is apparent!!!! thanks later, yammer 2k1
myminpins Posted September 7, 2011 #61 Posted September 7, 2011 The classified section is not available to trial members. The ones you found are old??? I saw at least seven put in there TODAY so I don't know where you're finding the old ads. If you go to "Quick Links" and "today's posts" you'll see quite a few new ads that have been posted.
Freebird Posted September 7, 2011 Author #62 Posted September 7, 2011 Yes, only supporting members can post to the classifieds. The reason for that is to prevent folks from joining the site only to try and sell their things. Yes, some of the ads are old. They were all re-posted when I re-activated the classifieds. Those that are there should still be good or should automatically expire soon.
Freebird Posted September 7, 2011 Author #63 Posted September 7, 2011 And the VRStore? Are all items current? I THINK so. Not sure about the bracelets. There is an email in that post that you can use to find out. I'm presently out of guardian bells but it clearly states that in the ad. I will order more when there is enough interest to do so.
GAWildKat Posted September 7, 2011 #64 Posted September 7, 2011 Speaking on the VR related items, is there a place we can post so we can show interest in certain items that are out of stock? Mike wants a bell and would be interested in the large patches, however contacting the person who made the original patches seems to go nowhere for me.
Freebird Posted September 7, 2011 Author #65 Posted September 7, 2011 The best place would probably just be the watering hole. I can order bells at any time but I need to know that there is enough interest. I can easily be sitting on a couple thousand dollars worth of inventory for a long time if I'm not careful. When I see a strong enough response to a request, I'll do what I can to provide what is requested.
dingy Posted September 7, 2011 #67 Posted September 7, 2011 Put me down for a bell. Dingy, get it Ding Ding. Gary
Freebird Posted September 9, 2011 Author #69 Posted September 9, 2011 Just a reminder. We HAVE gone back to the old format. No new ads can be added to the forum classifieds except for our member vendors. I will be removing all other categories tomorrow. I have sent Private Messages to everybody who had an ad in the forum classifieds reminding them to post their ads in the old classifieds. You get to them by clicking on "Classifieds" in the upper menu bar. Just a reminder. When you place an ad in the Classifieds, you do NOT need to place a link to it in the "Links to Classifieds" forum. That is done automatically by a custom mod that I have installed. Every, 10 minutes I think, the script checks for new ads and then posts a notice on the forum. At that time, the new ad will also show up on the home page as an active thread and also will show up under "New Posts". I am still working on the original glitch that caused our member vendor ads to prematurely get deleted. You will see some "test ads" posted by me until I get that issue resolved. Hopefully I will get that worked out soon. Until I am sure that it is resolved however, I will leave the "Member Vendors" classifieds in the forum as they are now.
hig4s Posted September 9, 2011 #70 Posted September 9, 2011 Well, truthfully, I don't believe most people even see the ads in the old area. they don't think to look there. I was just about to move my add to the forum section, but it has already been turned off. I much prefer them in the forum section.
Freebird Posted September 9, 2011 Author #71 Posted September 9, 2011 Your opinion is appreciated and welcome but you seem to be in the minority by far. Also, with the addition of the feature that posts new ad notifications automatically to the Links to Classifieds forum, they get at least as much exposure as the did in the forums. As for your old ad being deleted? I didn't delete any ads that weren't marked sold. If it was over 60 days old, it would have been deleted automatically. That was another negative of having them in the forum. After 60 days, there were deleted and there was no email sent out before hand giving you the option of renewing it. EDIT: I misread your statement about your old ad being deleted already. You said it was in the OLD area. So I really don't know what happened to it. Maybe notifications did not go out when I had that section disabled.
Trader Posted September 9, 2011 #72 Posted September 9, 2011 Put me down for a bell. Dingy, get it Ding Ding. Gary And here all along I thought your screen name was an adjective (as in Descriptive of a mental state)
