GolfVenture Posted September 5, 2011 #1 Posted September 5, 2011 Got the turnsignal / flasher fixed and all back together. And everything works. Engine is warming up right now. Thank you all for the help. But I need some more help. This one bolt, I do not know where it came from. It fits a 12 mm socket. I took the headlight out to get to some of the electricial. I took the steering cover off. I took the Air Compressure unit out, with the fairing cover so I could remove the flasher switch. I took the 2 side covers off. I took the seat out, but it is now back on with the 2 seat bolts. Any ideas?
steamer Posted September 5, 2011 #2 Posted September 5, 2011 It ain't done right if u don't have something left over.
SMSgt Posted September 5, 2011 #3 Posted September 5, 2011 Aren't you always supposed to have a part or two left over??????
Ryana7769 Posted September 5, 2011 #4 Posted September 5, 2011 A mechanic isn't worth his salt unless he has a few parts left over!!!:rotf:
TARHEEL RIDER Posted September 5, 2011 #5 Posted September 5, 2011 if nothing rattles or falls off...........you don't need it!!!
GolfVenture Posted September 5, 2011 Author #6 Posted September 5, 2011 Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! I know it funny but the bolt looks pretty important. It be different if it was a washer or something insignifcant. I wouldn't feel like wandering very far from home.
bkuhr Posted September 5, 2011 #7 Posted September 5, 2011 Did you have to loosen the radiator overfill bottle to get the hazard switch out? Might be one of the bottle mount tab bolts.
dingy Posted September 5, 2011 #8 Posted September 5, 2011 Brian, We, collectively, are pretty good at this 1st gen stuff. There are about 25 +/- bolts that look just like that on the bike. You're on your own on this one. Gary
SMSgt Posted September 5, 2011 #9 Posted September 5, 2011 Whatever it holds on will not fall off as long as it is parked in the garage, take it for a ride a really long ride because as the rules go drive it until it breaks then fix what broke. Or there is always rule #2 fix it until it's broke.
Flyinfool Posted September 6, 2011 #10 Posted September 6, 2011 My first guess is that it goes in the empty hole......... Good luck.
Sailor Posted September 6, 2011 #11 Posted September 6, 2011 There's always one in every crowd, or job.
elmicko Posted September 6, 2011 #12 Posted September 6, 2011 If you're 1st Gen is anything like the one I had, that is the bolt that makes a new crack in the plastic when you put it back in. Every time I stuck the last bolt from a project in, I found a new crack in the tupperware somewhere.
Rick Haywood Posted September 6, 2011 #13 Posted September 6, 2011 If it was a 2nd gen i"d say not to worry about it............but it being a 1st gen you better find where it belongs cause something is gonna fall off.
mbrood Posted September 6, 2011 #14 Posted September 6, 2011 My vote would be #3 on your list... (I just HATE when I stand up, all proud, and see something on the ground...) Mike
BuddyRich Posted September 6, 2011 #15 Posted September 6, 2011 That one holds the Nut to the SEAT....
GolfVenture Posted September 7, 2011 Author #17 Posted September 7, 2011 In my bag of VR misc nuts and bolts I found a matching bolt. What comes to mind is that I have 2 bolts for the seat but those bolts looks like something that I may have bought from a hardware store. Oh well, so I installed the two newly founded bolts into the seat and will call it good.
