Condor Posted September 5, 2011 #1 Posted September 5, 2011 I picked up a TREK 7000 mountain bike at an auction yesterday and it has the goofiest looking valve stems on the tires. I've never seen anything like these.... ever. They kinda have a double threaded stem, and the larger size looks smaller than what you normally find on a bike tire. Anyone know what these things are, and what kind of pump they take?? Pic attached...
reddevilmedic Posted September 5, 2011 #2 Posted September 5, 2011 its called a "presta".[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9byRp9e2USU]Presta Valve - YouTube[/ame]
Snaggletooth Posted September 5, 2011 #3 Posted September 5, 2011 Yep. Called a Presta valve. A bit smaller. Talks a special end for the pump. Most bike shops carry the pumps that fit it. I ride a Trek also with the same type. Mike
reddevilmedic Posted September 5, 2011 #4 Posted September 5, 2011 i custom built my specialized hardtail.
Condor Posted September 5, 2011 Author #5 Posted September 5, 2011 i custom built my specialized hardtail. Very cool!! Thanks for the YouTube. I guess it's off to the dealer for a smart pump...and a couple of caps.. I have never seen one of these before. The bike is cleaning up very nice. One thing I really like is it's 'Handbuilt in the USA'
etcswjoe Posted September 5, 2011 #6 Posted September 5, 2011 You will love the Trek I have had mine for 3 years now and it is pretty much indestructible .
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted September 5, 2011 #7 Posted September 5, 2011 you do not have to purchase a special pump.... most cycle shops sell a small adapter to go on the stem so you can use any air pump. Just like riding the motorcycle..... All the gear all the time ! Helmets save lives.

Rocket Posted September 5, 2011 #9 Posted September 5, 2011 This is getting better all the time.... Jack, I just can't picture you, pedalling your a$$ around town. Seeing that your scoots (with engines), don't get ridden much at all. :rotf:
