RandyR Posted September 5, 2011 #3 Posted September 5, 2011 Yep, the remains of hurricane Lee are following the Appalachian ridge north. We needed the rain here in GA, but wish you could have better weather for your ride.
1FSTZX14 Posted September 5, 2011 #4 Posted September 5, 2011 What part of West by god Virginia are you in?
Rick Haywood Posted September 5, 2011 Author #5 Posted September 5, 2011 What part of West by god Virginia are you in? Canaan Valley, WV
Galapagos Posted September 5, 2011 #6 Posted September 5, 2011 I just got back from Grantsville WV. Took the 4wd this trip. Heavy rain Thursday and Sunday night. The winds got scary Sunday evening and it was a real frog stike.
Yammer Dan Posted September 5, 2011 #7 Posted September 5, 2011 Been raining here in the middle of West by God all day. Calling for more and more.
Rick Haywood Posted September 5, 2011 Author #8 Posted September 5, 2011 Been raining here in the middle of West by God all day. Calling for more and more. Guess you'd better fill the fridge with cold ones and we wuill come and spend olur time there.
RandyR Posted September 5, 2011 #9 Posted September 5, 2011 The southern tail of the storm system won't be out of Georgia until early morning. I'd guess it'll be with West bygod for 2 more days.
Rick Haywood Posted September 6, 2011 Author #10 Posted September 6, 2011 Well we did get some riding in today. Rode hwy 72 and 219. Man 72 is a must ride. Not very wide and not very fast but lots of scenery and twisties. About a 25 mile ride that takes about 1 and a half hours. Here are a few pictures. Hopefully we can get soem more in tomorrow between the rain.
Yammer Dan Posted September 6, 2011 #11 Posted September 6, 2011 They are calling off a lot of the heavy rain now. You want to watch me wrestle cinderblock in the mud??
BradT Posted September 7, 2011 #12 Posted September 7, 2011 here in the middle of West by God Gotta Ask is it really called West by God, or is it made up ? Hope you have nicer weather. We have been through there a few times in the rain, Not nice. Went back this summer and the weather and roads were great. Brad
bryan52577 Posted September 7, 2011 #13 Posted September 7, 2011 West Virginia has got a lot of really great roads for motorcycles! Bryan P.S. Hope that picture Rick had of me didn't break your computer.
Yammer Dan Posted September 7, 2011 #15 Posted September 7, 2011 Ho-Hum!! see it every day!! It is hard to find a bad road in West Virginia if you stay off the Interstates and some people like them.
Cowboy Posted September 7, 2011 #16 Posted September 7, 2011 I learned back in June when Sherrie and I made the trip in WV. Locals call that Hwy 72 "The Goat Trail" 25 miles of narrow road with no edge lines or centerline. Great road even with it being narrow. Has some of the most senic secluded beauty. Glad to here you guys are making the best of it. If you get a chance take the road that goes up to the highest point in WV. It is just down the road from Canan Valley / South on US33 about 2 miles south of Riverton. / Spruce Knob 4861'. Restraunt on the corner was not bad food or desserts. Later Keep the rubber side down! Cowboy
BradT Posted September 8, 2011 #17 Posted September 8, 2011 if you stay off the Interstates and some people like them. I actually like the Interstates around there. Brad
Yammer Dan Posted September 8, 2011 #18 Posted September 8, 2011 I would rather do the smaller roads but you got to watch for Bambi. You guys get to ride today Rick? I wish I weasn't so busy right now. Did you go see the New River Bridge?
bryan52577 Posted September 8, 2011 #19 Posted September 8, 2011 Just some more pictures. What a beautiful day!! PUB RD # 13 NEEDS PAVED!!!! Internet site I found said it was "I thought" LIED! #72 is like a 4 lane highway compared to Pub RD # 13. Bryan

Yammer Dan Posted September 8, 2011 #21 Posted September 8, 2011 I have almost given up on those gravel roads but every once in a while I just ain't too smart!! Gonna go thru that 750 again for the backroads soon. Shut up goose.
Rick Haywood Posted September 8, 2011 Author #22 Posted September 8, 2011 I would rather do the smaller roads but you got to watch for Bambi. You guys get to ride today Rick? I wish I weasn't so busy right now. Did you go see the New River Bridge? Dan we did get in some riding yesterday and had a great time and a great ride. Went up through MD and PA then worked our way back to the house we are staying at. As for the bridge we arfe going down there on our way home when we leave Friday. I have 55 acres over by Prestonsburg Kentucky I want to check on so it makes the trip to the bridge right on the way. Anyway everyone have a great day we are headed off to explore some more. Rick
Sparkey Posted September 8, 2011 #23 Posted September 8, 2011 Rain does lessen the fun. I headed WV way last Thursday with Central PA being the destination on a beautiful day and hit worst storm ever at Clarksburg, WV. I sure was glad to see one of those big Pilot signs. Waited it out there and made PA late in the day. Did some nice riding the following day but after checking out the weather, decided to beat cheeks back to Ohio on Saturday. Be raining ever since. Our plan was to ride to Cass, WV tomorrow, but the way it looks here, we will most likely be making the trip in the cage. Bummer. Hope you find some sunshine.
Yammer Dan Posted September 8, 2011 #24 Posted September 8, 2011 OK, this is for all you NON believers! YAMAHA Venture parts are not hard to find and can be found ANYWHERE!! Right Rick? Bryan Dollar Tree is where they have the Power House Wax. Great for windshields and touching up bike. At $1. a can!! Greatest deal around. Awesome cleaner there in spray bottles for same price is also very hard to beat. Cleans about anything. Wish I could have found time to ride with you guys a little.
