brainfart Posted August 31, 2011 #1 Posted August 31, 2011 it's true.. i wore out the kickstand.... 07 RSV w/103k miles. it hangs down and scrapes on anything other than a very moderate left turn.. annoys heck outa the navigator............. dealership says the bushing in there is a maintenance item. ok - i can go along with that.. $9.56 for a new bushing. however - the metal on th ekickstand itself has worn so that - when stowed - it still hangs down an inch or so... New kickstand - $241 (ouch) anyway - be advised -- CHECK your bushing and replace as needed...
RandyR Posted August 31, 2011 #3 Posted August 31, 2011 so how come the interlock on the kickstand even lets the engine run? Mine would act like a kill switch if down an inch. Maintenance item? sounds like bs to me. I'd call Yamaha customer service.
Reed Posted August 31, 2011 #4 Posted August 31, 2011 take it off the bike & go to a welding shop or frend that has a welder & weld the hole shut. grind it down. then drill the hole the size of the bushing. I didn't look if it comes off so it might need to be dun on the bike. Just disconect the battery!!!!!! do it your self = 1 hr. of your time shop will charge by the hr. = 60 to 120 good luck
Freebird Posted September 1, 2011 #5 Posted September 1, 2011 That dealer and I would be going toe to toe. There is NO WAY that the bushing should be considered a wear item and it and the sides stand should be replaced under warranty. I've been around a LOT of these bikes from '99 to present and have not known of the bushing on the side stand wearing out. You should be talking to Yamaha corporate if he won't get off that lame story.
V7Goose Posted September 1, 2011 #6 Posted September 1, 2011 Yup, another dishonest dealer refusing to stand up for his customer 'cause he thinks his lies will get him billable service work. Run form that crook. Goose
BradT Posted September 1, 2011 #7 Posted September 1, 2011 The bushing does not wear much, it is the bolt that wears a ridge which makes it sloppy. Neither part is expensive. Hardest part is getting the spring back on, without it flying across the room. Not sure why it hangs down unless it was bent. They can bend if you trailer it on the kick stand. Brad
