BuckShot Posted August 30, 2011 #1 Posted August 30, 2011 In need of 1 handle bar nut cover for 86 Vr. While on a trip last week with the kids, one of my plastic covers that hide the nut to adjust handle bars came flying off. Hoping someone will have this small item, Gladly pay for it and shipping. Thanks Gil
gibvel Posted August 30, 2011 #2 Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) There's something at Home Depot or Lowe's that work for this, but I just can't remember, off hand, what it is. It's been so long since I did this fix on mine that I can't remember the product. Hopefully someone will chime in here and tell you what it is. In the mean time... BUMP!! Just thought to look on http://www.partshark.com/fiche_select2.asp?category=Motorcycles&make=Yamaha&year=1986&fveh=178&x=128&y=13 Part # 8, CAP 26H-26133-00-00, on the fiche. Costs $9.97 each. Just another way to go. Edited August 30, 2011 by gibvel
Snaggletooth Posted August 30, 2011 #3 Posted August 30, 2011 The plugs are still available from Yammy from what I hear. About $20.00 each. I tried several different types of plug and hole covers from the hardware store but due to the bit of an angle on the bar they didn't hold very well. I thought I might try to fill the holes with black sealent and cut it off flush. I mean after you get the bars set, how often do you move them? It can always be dug back out of needed. I'll probably order a set myself from Yammy over the winter fixits. Mike
Jayceesfolly Posted August 31, 2011 #4 Posted August 31, 2011 Check with Skydoc_17, he had some yellow covers on his bar ends on his scoot. He may be able to tell you where he got them, and if other colors are available. Jim
tz89 Posted August 31, 2011 #5 Posted August 31, 2011 Should they get a spot of glue to hold them in? Crazy glue? Something else? I'm going mount a new one in mine soon. T
van avery Posted September 1, 2011 #6 Posted September 1, 2011 Gil, send me a PM with your address and I send you a plug off and 83. Looks like its the same part number.
mbrood Posted September 1, 2011 #7 Posted September 1, 2011 Install with a small amount of latex calk... down the road it will still let you wiggle the cap out and cleans up nice. RTV must be cut to release and cleanup is ugly.
BuckShot Posted September 1, 2011 Author #8 Posted September 1, 2011 Gil, send me a PM with your address and I send you a plug off and 83. Looks like its the same part number.
