VentureT Posted August 29, 2011 #1 Posted August 29, 2011 Just when you thought you completed your mental checklist of hazards: Inconsiderate / rude / inattentive drivers pot holes animals here comes one you wouldn't expect.... http://www.cp24.com/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110829/110829_motorcyclist_injured/20110829/?hub=CP24Home
Trader Posted August 29, 2011 #2 Posted August 29, 2011 Looks like it was possible the kite string was just an "unfortunate circumstance" from the kite battles that go on in the area.....but did you see the related article on fishing line? That had to be intentional! How can you "watch out" for fishing line? The world is truely becoming sicker and sicker!
mbrood Posted August 29, 2011 #3 Posted August 29, 2011 For us "southerners"... Exactly what are hydro wires ? Do you call them after the source of the electricity or have you devised a clever scheme to pipe the town's water through wires?

Snaggletooth Posted August 29, 2011 #5 Posted August 29, 2011 There have been several injuries around my area over the last few years from jokers that tied fish line across the bicycle trails. You would never see that coming.
FuzzyRSTD Posted August 30, 2011 #6 Posted August 30, 2011 Wow, and I thought it was bad this morning when I ended up behind a log truck pulling a trailer, loaded with a large bulldozer and rocks flying off the trailer every where. I managed to dodge the most of them and still one got me in the left knee. Kinda painful for a little bit at 45 mile an hour. I could see no other way out of this mess, other than getting a semi-clear shot and passing this moron. There was another 4 wheeler behind me riding me pretty close also. It was kinda dark yet and I thought about stopping and checking my bike for damage. But as I recalled it through my memory there was not any that I recalled hitting my bike. I did look after getting to work. I would have gone and chased him down if I had any damage to the bike. Why do people do this ? No respect for anyone else at all. If I find out who this is, I will call them or go to them and let them know how close they came to killing me. I am sure the car behind me got some of the rocks. They where bouncing high and over me also. What would a person do in this situation anyway ? People putting string across a roadway is completely ignorant and disrespectful to every motorist, bike or not.
BlueVenture87 Posted August 30, 2011 #7 Posted August 30, 2011 Stretching plastic wrap across the road seems to be a popular thing to do in Wisconsin. I can remember two cycle crashes, I believe one of them fatal, that made the news in recent years. Yup, it's one thing and another. -JK
CaptainJoe Posted August 30, 2011 #8 Posted August 30, 2011 The nice thing about a second gen is the windshield will break kite or fishing string without any problem... don't know about the plastic wrap...it should, if only one thickness but who knows... No worries...
Black wing Posted September 4, 2012 #9 Posted September 4, 2012 makes me glad to have switched to a bike with a full windshield now
Sonnysboy Posted September 4, 2012 #10 Posted September 4, 2012 A few years ago a resident, in the Tail of the Dragon area, thought it would be a good idea to slow the traffic down by pouring oil on the roadway in a couple of the corners. Causing cars and bikes to take a ride into the woods. But in this case they did catch the guy who did it. I can't even imagine how someone would think that doing these kind of things would be funny. Kinda glad I can't figure it out. Stupid is just stupid.
Dave77459 Posted September 4, 2012 #11 Posted September 4, 2012 Reminded me of an old post from V7Goose, circa 2009, when he road around Texas: *snip* But it was still a neat ride until Tom damn near got decapitated. Some idiot strung a nylon string across a street on South Padre - no idea how I missed it riding in front (didn't even see it), but it caught in Tom's visor and sawed part way through before it finally snapped and slid free. Dodged another bullet! *snip* Dave
