Ok folks,

I think I may be outa my mind. I am a scooter rider (SYM RV250) and wish to upgrade and get more power and do a bit our touring with my wife.

Am I biting off more than I can chew by looking to ride this big-boys bike? My only experience with a clutch bike was the Highway Patrol's safety course. I have been riding my scooter for 6 months.

Should I be looking at something a bit smaller and work my way up to this bike?

Thanks

Ken

Ken:

the Venture is a big top heavy bike easily 1000lbs all up, you have 60lbs of gas as high as possible just to make things worse.

IMHO I would start with an 1100 or a 950 and then move up a year or two later.

That Said the Venture is a joy to ride long distance. Compared to my Goldwing it has more comfortable seating, roomier seating and loads of leg room. It rides better than my Goldwing. The Goldwing has a much lower center of gravity so handles twisty roads better, and of course the engine/transmission is a lot quieter than the venture. That said the Venture is by far my favorite bike for most riding, but it is not a beginner bike.

As for your sanity, your question is insufficent for a valid evaluation

Take your time and you will enjoy the bike more once you get one

This is all good to hear, even for someone who's already taken the plunge. Had a Honda CB160 in high school then stopped riding for 35 years (what a waste). Got the bug again and bought a V-Star 1100 Custom six years ago. Bought my Venture this past January. It is a beast. I'm 5'9" and 170 lbs and if I'm not fully upright at a stop, things can get quite exciting. The V-Star is far more forgiving. I've decided to keep both bikes because they are so different. Compared to the Venture, the V-Star is my scooter.

My first bike beyond a moped was a GL1100 Gold Wing can pick them up cheap and not worry about hurting them three years latter got my new RSMV you have to be comfortable with what you choose I am 6'3" and didn't feel comfortable on smaller bikes.:thumbsup2:
