Condor Posted August 25, 2011 #1 Posted August 25, 2011 I just answered the biz phone, and received an automated recording. "This is Ebay calling. If you are expecting this call press '0' " I didn't, and hung up. I don't do anything off a recording... It may have been a scam?? I went to my Ebay message board and there was nothing posted.... It probably was a scam.... Be forwarned...
petekadish Posted August 25, 2011 #2 Posted August 25, 2011 Last week I received two separate calls on my cell phone stating that there was an issue with my Wells Fargo debit card, and that if I didn't wish for it to be cancelled as a precaution, that I should push a number. The funny thing though, is that I don't have a Wells Fargo account of any kind. So, I just hung-up. I figure that there's no point in automatically confirming anything to a potential scammer. Be Safe! Pete.
Flyinfool Posted August 25, 2011 #3 Posted August 25, 2011 What did your caller ID say? It was most likely a scam or even just a computer hunting for phone numbers that are answered by a human. Once they know a human will answer then the scammers know who to call every day. It is real bad for a scammer to call me when I am bored with absolutely nothing better to do than to see how long I can keep them on the line and how messed up I can get them.
Condor Posted August 25, 2011 Author #4 Posted August 25, 2011 I just got off the phone with Ebay and there was a phone number varification issued yesterday for my account. I told them they need to forwarn someone it's going to happen, and even then I may not press anything... He also said I had the oldest account he'd run accross... so far. Been buying and selling since 1998. How time flies when your spending money.... I don't even want to think about how much I've spent total...

Rick Haywood Posted August 25, 2011 #6 Posted August 25, 2011 I love telemarketers you can have so much fun. I had one today that said they were going to lower my interest rate on my credit cards. Said they were my bank. Funny thing is I don't have a credit card. Well I played along and they said I must hav e at least 10,000 on the card and I told him it was an equity line on my house and I had about 40,000 on it with a credit line of somewhere around 75,000. Man he got excited. So we talked andf then he said to lower it he would need my credit card number that's when I asked him how he could live with himself trying to rip people off that's when he told me to go get f"ed and hung up.
KarlS Posted August 26, 2011 #7 Posted August 26, 2011 I got one last night that was supposed to be Chase Bank about security issues with my account. I have nothing with Chase. It was area code 949 (California), I hung up and then tried to call it back and got what sounded like a computer generated message in Spanish.
Sailor Posted August 26, 2011 #8 Posted August 26, 2011 There is a scam where they call you and tell you to press a certain number, if you do it opens up your phone lines and they can call anywhere in the world and it gets billed to you.
