iPod adapter for RSV - report

When I first heard about the interface coming I contacted iSimple and they said it would only be available from Yamaha.

I can provide better pictures if necessary. The cable from the interface to c-bus is about 10" long. The interface has two "ports" on it but only one is used to connect the iPod. Instructions say not to use port 2.

The interface is attached to the saddlebag using two sided tape (provided in package) so it won't be possible to remove it. I'll take more pics tonight and post.

I just stumbled across this mp3 player today and thought I would post it for you G2 riders. It looks like it is just plug and play and runs off your handlbar controls. It kinda looks like the cable is included, but I am not 100% sure exactly what is needed for connection.

I ordered a VentureMP3 unit about ten days ago and received it on Tuesday. I installed it yesterday afternoon and I have to say I am impressed. The cable that is supplied plugs into the CD plug in the fairing and is long enough to run to the trunk, which is where I installed it. The head unit is a little larger than a pack of cards and allows you to use a SD card or a USB flash drive as the storage device.

 

You basically set up six folders (that correspond with the six CDs that the system will recognize) with up to ninety-nine songs in each folder - 594 total. The handlebar control unit displays the folder number and the song number (song #4 on folder #3 would display as 4 -3). I think this is better than the display system with the iSimple unit that Yamaha is now supplying.

 

Only drawback is the price. I paid 123 euros which at the time was equivalent to $185. But it did include everything except the SD card.

 

It has worked without a hitch and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Does anyone know what the connector for the cassette deck is? Is it c-bus?

 

I think the easiest way to answer this is what type of cable is the buddy rich cable? I am pretty sure all those connectors under the hood are the same. I could be wrong, but I don't think it is c-bus. 5 pin dinn if I recall.

Well, you've had this for a few days now, any new updates??? One more question, When you turn off the bike, I assume the player turns off also, right? If so, does it start back up where it left off or will the music revert back to the beginning of the media card? OK, that's 2 more questions!!!

The venturemp3 unit works like a champ. Yes, when you turn off the bike, the unit turns off as well. When you turn it back on it starts right where it left off. It also pauses the music when you switch to another source such as AM, FM or AUX.

 

The sound quality is great.

 

Even though it cost me $185, it's still less expensive than the iSimple unit. Also,it does not require an iPod and displays the actual folder (CD) and song number playing(unlike the iSimple that just displays 1-1 no matter what song you're playing).

 

Now, if only someone would make a similar adapter for an XM tuner.

When I bought my bike, about a month ago, I did not receive the isimple and mp3 player. I called back and talked to the dealer about it and they checked with Yamaha, Yamaha sent it seperate to the parts department. The parts manager didn't have a clue it went with a new bike ( They had 3 on the shelf) The dealer shipped it to me and it took about 20 min to install. My only issue is that having an iphone with a ton of music you need to get down to 5 playlists for the handlebar controller. It also seems to skip, I haven't tried the iphone there because I use it as a gps also. I have been putting it in the mesh pocket in the side bag.

I recently installed mine (about 2 weeks ago) and noticed this morning on the way to work my lights seemed to flicker a few times.

I make sure to unplug the ipod when it is going to sit for more than a hour or so. Battery is original on a 2010 RSV.

Having the iPod plugged in all the time does drain the battery. It indicates inthe manual that the circuit is still hot when the bike is off. Nice part of this is the iPod is always charged. Downside is that if the bike sits for a while the battery will be low.

I was hoping the hour or so the bike was sitting would not make that much of a difference. I have been making sure to unplug the ipod if it is going to be any longer. I'll need to make sure to unplug anytime the bike is off.

That's a huge drain!! I would think the internal battery of the ipod would hold up longer than that!!!

Never had a flicker, I have left it on for several days while attached to the isimple with no problem. I typically remove the ipod and take it in the house to sync / charge it. Are you leaving the ipod on and in the bike??? wonder if you have your ipod set up looking for wifi connection or something. If you go through the settings and turn off wifi and bluetooth... if all you are using it for is an mp3 player.
