84ROYAL Posted August 20, 2011 #1 Posted August 20, 2011 (edited) Hi there everyone. My son and I were out for a ride and got pulled over and the cop informed me that i had no tail lights. Good thing is the cop let me go and told me to get them fixed. Ok i will get to the point. I have went over the hole wiring and cannot find a broken wire and also have found out that when I apply the front brake the brake light does not work but the rear does work. Any ideas on what is up. Does the cmu have something to do with the fact that i have all the lights on the bike but now running lights on the back of the bike. Edited August 21, 2011 by 84ROYAL
bkuhr Posted August 20, 2011 #2 Posted August 20, 2011 The front and rear brake switched are wired in parellel, either one will turn on circuit. Then they run thru the CMU dash computer, and should provide and indication of brake light failure. If no indication of failure and circuits works with rear switch, I would suspect that the front switch is defective-most likely the button is dirty/jammed. You also stated 'no tail lights'. Does this also mean no running light?
84ROYAL Posted August 20, 2011 Author #3 Posted August 20, 2011 I have all the lights but no tail light nothing shows up on the dash
fishrepair Posted August 20, 2011 #4 Posted August 20, 2011 I had the same thing happen to me the other day. The front brake switch, under the brake lever, is defective. I took one off of my parts bike and spliced it in the place of the old one and shazzam, it worked.
Flyinfool Posted August 21, 2011 #5 Posted August 21, 2011 There is a possibility that a previous owner has jumped the CMU in preparation for LEDs.
