So what I found was that the 20 AMP Signal fuse was blown. But mine had a 10 amp fuse in that slot, and I blew 2 more 10 amp until Dingy told me that it is suppose to be a 20 amp. I put a 20 amp in and so my dash works, horn works, turn signal worked. Every thing except my headlights. On my way back home I lost my turn signals again but just the turn signals.

At home bongobobny called and directed me to the 2nd bank of fuses. I found them just in front of the battery and a bit off to the right of center and down a bit. The Hazard 15 amp was blown. Put a new one in and still the head lights and turn signal (& 4 Way flashers) does not work.

Headlamp Trouble shooting.

Put in a new fuse

Put in a new headlamp

still does not work.

Any suggestion before I trace the wires?

Turn signal touble shooting.

Put in a new fuse.

Could the flasher go out, if so what are the symptoms and where is the turn signal flashers located at?

Any other suggestions?

As I was taking the headlight switch apart the headlights came on both hi and low. So I sprayed some elec contact cleaner and worked the hi/lo switch a few times.

Being that the turn signal switch is there also I sprayed it but the turn signals do not work still.

Still thinking about the fact that both the turn signal and the hazard fuse blew.

Any suggestions as to what I can check?

The hazard switch/cable is the first thing I see in the schematic that ties the turn signals & hazard circuits together.

The flasher circuits are in the 41R relay, about the size of a pack of smokes, black with about a 9 wire connector going into it, in headlight bucket area.

The headlight is powered through the dash monitor. The things that may be causing a problem there is the reserve lighting unit going bad or the dimmer switch dirty.

When I talked to you earlier, you said your tail & running lights were OK, and they also go through the dash monitor.

Are your meter lights working, these are powered by the same circuit that powers the reserve lighting unit then the headlights.

Any fail indications on the dash display CMU? (headlight)

Power for turns run thru the Hazard switch when off from signal fuse.

Power for hazard run thru hazard switch when on from main fuse.

Thinking bad hazard switch.

Brian,

Found the spare hazard switch for the 89 bike & starting circuit relay (41R).

If you find you don't need them before tomorrow night let me know, otherwise I will get them sent to you priority mail Monday morning.
