AKRefugee Posted August 20, 2011 #1 Posted August 20, 2011 My left turn signal is stuck in the on position in the following condition Left Turn on and flashing Will not cancel automatically Will not cancel manually Will not change to right turn Turned off then turned on and still flashing Ideas thoughts or suggestions??? Trader Posted August 20, 2011 #2 Posted August 20, 2011 My first guess would be you you have a wire pinched and exposed somewhere closing the circuit. 2nd guess would be the switch itself needs to be pulled apart and checked.
bkuhr Posted August 20, 2011 #3 Posted August 20, 2011 As the flasher is wired before the turn switch, the only way for lights to flash is to make connection after the flasher and the lights itself. The turn switch is what makes this connection, and the inability to cancel or change at the turn switch almost gaurantees the problem to be with the turn switch itself. Most pinched wires are pinch to frame, and would short out the flasher circuit, likely blowing fuse, but for sure preventing the lamps from lighting/flashing normally. Turning on hazard, will remove power from turn flasher circuit, and activate hazard flasher. Then all 4 corners should flash normally eliminating wireing issue. Suggest take turn switch apart.

AKRefugee Posted August 20, 2011 Author #5 Posted August 20, 2011 Okay, so I am an idiot. Nothing wrong after all. I went out to turn on the 4ways to see what it did and SURPRISE it was already on. Instantly I knew what had happened. A few months ago the 4way stopped working on the right side. After doing a continuity check and all I figured out that it was the 4way flasher unit. Since I don't really need the 4ways I decided to just leave it. Since the 4ways take precedent over the turn indicators and the right side of the 4ways is inoperative it appeared that the left turn was stuck on. As soon as I turned off the 4ways all was normal. I know there is a "I dropped it" fee but I wonder . . . is there an "I'm an idiot" fee??? BTW - I took the switch completely apart and unless a wire is broken or a contact got stuck and the fuse failed and the contact got burned in place the only thing I found that could break was one spring. No diodes, no resistors. In my opinion the chances of that switch ever being a problem is very slim.
bkuhr Posted August 20, 2011 #6 Posted August 20, 2011 Glad it was easy fix. As for 4 way, most likely broke wire at, or defective hazard switch itself to operate left sdie but not right side.

I had been working on the mirrors and had accidentally slightly depressed the 4way switch, which on the roketa is very near the base of the right mirror. I never knew that I had somehow managed to press it enough so that it was partially engaged. Apparently, it has a left and right side circuit, and it was pressed halfway in, just enough to engage the right side flashers...I started wondering why the damn right side flashers were blinking and no matter what I did with the turnsignal switch they just kept blinking. Finally I noticed the switch in its midway position...good thing too, as I had visions of removing acres of tupperware and going at it with a tester.
