Ok So i am jumpning feet in . The low end stumble when trying to take off , the hard starts in the summer while having to use full choke. And the long wait to warm up even in the summer is driving me nuits.

The 96 rstc came with kromewerks aftermarket pipes and I doubt it was ever rejetted.

I was planning on taking the carbs off and turning the pilot jets richer 1/2 to a full turn but was told by a friend if the carbs are gonna be off just step up the main jets one size larger.

does anyone have any info on this . Is it a good idea and if so where do i get the jets and how do i know what size are in there now?

 

I have a dose of seafoam now to see if this is the problem. i plan on doingthis labor day weekend so I want to get ready now.

Rejetting these bikes is not really needed. You should go thru the carbs and clean them real good. Run some seafoam thru. Also check the diaphragms for pin holes.

Well, your bike is different than the RSV so maybe re-jetting would help. I just can't say for sure. On my RSV, I've run several different kinds of mufflers, including Khromewerks and never felt that it needed to be re-jetted. That being said, here is a very well done article on re-jetting the RSV carbs. It is probably similar for your bike. Note though that when it was all said and done, he ended up going back to the stock jets.

Thank you for the article. It seems he went back to stock main jets but increasing the pilot jets and shimming the needle gave him quicker throttle response which is what I am looking for.

i will be ordering new pilot jets and some washers. i know it will be a trial and error prcess but labor day weekend will give me plenty of time.

 

Now to tap a bottle of soda so I dont have keep reinstalling the tank for a test ride.

I see that there is a question at the bottom of that thread that didn't get answered and it is the same question that occured to me as his picture didn't really show a difference from stock to the change in washer...at least I couldn't see it.

 

On the first pic of the needle assembly, it looks like there are 3 washers (or a clip ring and 2 washers) ... on the second pic, it looks exactly the same except they are separated.

 

So the question is, did he take one washer off the top, reassemble the needle assembly and then slide that washer up from the bottom so that it is below the nylon "whatchamacallit" or ???

 

If so, wouldn't it just slide off?

Here is quote from the thread. "You will want to add some washers to the needle and diapragm.

Now I dont know how Don Murray did it but I simply removed one of the washers from the top and slid it up from the bottom.Just disassemble the unit and move one of the washers or buy extra washers from your dealer"

I guess the picture is to show what it looks like and not what he did. He didnt want to lead anyone and allows us to choose how to do this. I will buy more washers because I think the 3 washers are there for areason.

so i tried moving the mixture (pilot) screws out a full turn. If felt a little better but on number # carb thats the end of the line. the screw wont back out anymore.

My initial feeling was that the choking when blipping the throttle wasnt as pronounced and 3 times I let the bike cool and she was able to start with no choke.

Today I will be going on a simple ride 4o miles and this should give me a better idea.

p.s. I have the larger pilot jets on order .
