Sideoftheroad Posted August 16, 2011 #1 Posted August 16, 2011 Is there a standard bulb I can buy from an auto parts store or is there a bulb I have to get from a bike shop, internet, etc... Thanks
Grisolm1 Posted August 16, 2011 #2 Posted August 16, 2011 Front get a 3157 bulb to replace your weaker 1157. Rear 1156 is only option. All available at any auto parts store. Somewhere around 2005 they changed to a slightly different socket. I think the only upgrade on this series.
Sideoftheroad Posted August 16, 2011 Author #3 Posted August 16, 2011 Went to the store on the way home. Can't use 3157 for my '99 scoot as 3157's have the rectangular bases and the bulbs and socket are round.
flb_78 Posted August 16, 2011 #4 Posted August 16, 2011 Yeah, the 3157 is a wedge base. I use the 1157NA bulbs and I always replace them in pairs.
Sideoftheroad Posted August 17, 2011 Author #5 Posted August 17, 2011 is 1157NA the same as 1157A. I don't recall seeing NA, just A or LL (Long Life)
flb_78 Posted August 18, 2011 #7 Posted August 18, 2011 the 1157NA is a natural amber bulb instead of being painted glass. I found this page on 1157 vs 2057 vs 2357 which are all interchangeable. http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/BrakeLight.htm Supposedly, the standard 1157 is the longest lasting.
Sylvester Posted August 18, 2011 #8 Posted August 18, 2011 My solution was to install RADIANTZ led units and forget about ever changing them. I did this in 2002 and have 150,000+ miles; I have never had a problem. Plus they are much brighter. I even change my main brake light to the same led's.
XV1100SE Posted August 18, 2011 #9 Posted August 18, 2011 Has anyone tried the Custom Dynamics cluster in rear signal housing? Has turn/brake/running light in one cluster. http://www.customdynamics.com/motorcycle_dynamic_clusters.htm
Grisolm1 Posted August 18, 2011 #10 Posted August 18, 2011 Typo 2357 is the brighter direct replacement.
