Evan Posted August 13, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2011 We are leaving this weekend for our own "Venture West", departing from Toronto. My wife and I now have five weeks available so we hope to make it to the west coast. Have rode to the east coast a number of times but this is my first bike trip west. Plan to ride west mostly in Canada (eh) and back mostly in the US, likely by way of route 2 unless we also go to Yellowstone. Going north of Lake Huron and then through the Michigan UP before we turn north to Kenora/Winnipeg and then westward. Plan on spending some time in BC (Banff, Jasper, Kamloops, Kelowna areas). Will mostly motel but also do some camping. Hope to meet up with some fellow Venture Riders along the way and will invite your specific route and sightseeing suggestions as we go. Check with Wizard 765 for his impressions on the area, but I think you would really enjoy the Coombs to Tofino area (Vancouver Island) on the scoot. With a weeks notice, I should be able to get a day or two off work, to show you the way.
Wizard765 Posted August 13, 2011 Share #10 Posted August 13, 2011 I agree with Rocket.. If you actually make it to the coast you should hit the island and do the ride across to Tofino.. amazing.. while on that trip across the island you should stop and visit Cathedral Grove. AND the ride from Vancouver up to Whistler along the Sea to Sky is great as well. Hope you two have an AWESOME time.. keep us informed as you go.. AND we want PICTURES! Trader Posted August 13, 2011 Share #15 Posted August 13, 2011 I'm hoping my wife will agree to a trip like that in the next year or so. She loves the MKII compared to the MK1 for passenger comfort so there is hope Stay safe, have fun and TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES for us !!!!
Sailor Posted August 13, 2011 Share #16 Posted August 13, 2011 Vancouver Island is a great ride as is the one to Whistler. Instead of going down I 5 to rte 20 I would go through the Sumas crossing ( Abbotsford) and down rte 9 to rte 20 and through the North Cascades. A much more relaxing and scenic route. Panjandrum Posted August 15, 2011 Share #17 Posted August 15, 2011 +1 on Highway 20 to Winthrop. It is a favourite of mine. I have to do it at least once a year. Leaving 27th August! YAAAY! This week-end we did Duffy Lake Road: AMAZING scenery. Some parts of the road are getting a little bumpy, but it is another "must do" ride while in this part of the world. Chris.... has there been any improvements or re-paving done on that road over the past couple years? I was thru there about 5 years ago and it was pretty bad for about 15-20 kms
Panjandrum Posted August 15, 2011 Share #21 Posted August 15, 2011 They are re-paving for about 4 kilometers just outside Pemberton. Then the road is pretty good up to the last third, which is a bit broken up. There are some nice patches of new surface in the middle portion. In spite of the bits of rough road, it is still an awesome ride!

We are in the Battleford - Lloydminster area. You can text me at 306-314-0215. Jim
