Whitlow Posted August 9, 2011 #1 Posted August 9, 2011 I just installed a Clearview XXLarge Shield with vent and I have a reflection of the gas cap in the shield. Anyone else have this problem and did you fix it and how? Thansk
CMIKE Posted August 9, 2011 #2 Posted August 9, 2011 With the stock windshield the chrome gas cap would reflect off the windshield for me. I quickly ordered one of the Yamaha Leather gas cap covers to solve this problem. Been using it for 25000 miles. It is a pain to remove and put on the gas cap when it is new but it gets easier the older it gets. IT works and looks good also.
ahoutzer Posted August 9, 2011 #3 Posted August 9, 2011 Put a cover on the gas cap or paint the gas cap. I use the leather cover that Yamaha sold (I don't know whether they still sell it). Some put a drink snaggy there. I think AceHighLeathers has made some really fancy gas cap covers, if I remember right.
rumboogy Posted August 9, 2011 #4 Posted August 9, 2011 OK...here is the ANSWER to your question about reflections in both the windshield and YOUR EYES from direct reflections in the sun. A custom leather gas cap cover by Ace High Leathers...I LOVE MINE (in fact, I have 3 of them). Here is a link with ALL the information you'll need. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57521
SilvrT Posted August 9, 2011 #5 Posted August 9, 2011 I painted my gas cap flat black 3 summers ago and it looks the same today as when I painted it. NO MORE REFLECTION!! Simply clean it very good with laquer thinner, mask the underside (parts that go inside the tank), spray it with a good primer (black) and then coat it with a good flat black. You can use rattle cans for this. I suppose tho, that the cost of paint might exceed any price one might pay for a custom cover ... BUT ... you'll still have lots of paint left over for other things.
OB-1 Posted August 9, 2011 #6 Posted August 9, 2011 My wife took a piece of an old black T-shirt and a bit of elastic and made a gas cap cover for our bike. Works like a champ!
