kenw Posted August 8, 2011 #1 Posted August 8, 2011 Has anyone ever pulled a dent out of sheet metal? My wife has a dent in her vehicle and I heard that dry ice can shrink the metal and pop out the dent (not large), and was wondering if anyone has ever tried it. Thanks
SC89Venture Posted August 8, 2011 #2 Posted August 8, 2011 Here's a video of it, never done it myself. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0UAUBE-Hmg]Car Dent Removal with Hair Dryer and Compressed Air - YouTube[/ame] Good luck, let us know.
Snaggletooth Posted August 8, 2011 #3 Posted August 8, 2011 Yep, works pretty good if the dent is smooth. I've done quite a few from hail damage, (God bless the Midwest) and "most" of them don't even show. A nice flat slab of dry ice and wrapped it in a thin flannel cloth. Hold it onto the dented surface and wait. Some of them can take a while. I'd sometimes hear a small "click" and it would be pulled back into shape. If there is a sharp crease in the dent it won't work very well. Ya got some heavy gloves? Gets a bit nippy doing it this way. Worth a try anyway. Mike
Eck Posted August 8, 2011 #4 Posted August 8, 2011 Not sure what your dent looks like but you might try a toilet plunger.... believe it or not they work too.. Yes, wash it off first....duh...... and the dent area needs to be wet so plunger sticks real good...
