1st Gen MKII GPS Mounting Ideas

I just used the windshield suction cup mount and attached it to the face of the tach. I have enough experience riding that I didn't really need to use the tach. I also attached a lanyard to the GPS and mount just in case it did let go so that it wouldn't fall off. Worked quite well and never did drop off, although I did remove the mount after each trip so that it would be a "fresh" attachment each time.

The RAM mirror mount will go under the bolt that attaches the gray audio controller box to the clutch lever perch. I use a RAM Aquabox with it because my GPS isn't weather proof.

I ran the power cable and audio hook up cable through the cable run inside the bar. Sorry, no pics.

Funny you should ask ......

Been playing with another idea from a project I did a while back. It gets the GPS off the bars and onto the dash. It's a good solid mounting point.

I started with the dash "visors" in the beginning to cover the cracks on the tops of the dash panels where they mount to the stay frame.

That evolved into the visor and again into the sport camera mount on the left side of the dash.

Then the idea of extending the right side using a heavier material with a flange/lip coming off the back side that could be shaped up or down depending on the riders height and/or preference that would allow the stud mount from the original GPS mount to be attached through the lip.

I've been playing with patterns for the new visor/mount and it looks like it should work fine and keep the GPS out of the wind and in view. I'm waiting for an extra GPS suction cup mount ($12.00) to strip for parts and not have to strip my original one.

No pictures yet as I'm still playing with carboard templates. But you might get the idea of what I'm talking about from these pics.

:2cents:

I got a ubolt attached to a ram mount and attached that to the round part on the handlebars, kinda between the grips and the square aluminum bars.

Ill try and get a pic later. brian

Same here. Had it mounted there for the last 3 years. Very easy to install and I like the location for viewing my GPS.
