Danaman Posted August 8, 2011 #1 Posted August 8, 2011 The main features I want are the navigation and the MP3 player. Is the 550 my best bet? I really don't think I will use features like loading in trips, etc.
Midrsv Posted August 8, 2011 #2 Posted August 8, 2011 The Garmin Zumo 550 works well for me. I've looked at the 660 and 665 and they are nice but I don't think the mounting system is as robust as the 550. Why wouldn't you want to create routes? It's very easy to do online and then transfer them to the GPS. I do it all the time. Dennis
waterbug Posted August 8, 2011 #3 Posted August 8, 2011 I have the 660 and love it other than I did a update last year and it's off now! I need to get another update at some point when I get time. How do you do the route? I need to have someone show I guess. I like the 660 because it's a bigger screen and in the fall and winter wearing gloves it makes it nice.
mother Posted August 8, 2011 #4 Posted August 8, 2011 i have both the 550 and the 660. i prefer to use the 660 on the bike as it has a bigger screen and is easier to see. cheers, Scott
relic Posted August 8, 2011 #5 Posted August 8, 2011 (edited) How come it always comes down to size for you Scott??????? How have you been keeping? Long time no see! i have both the 550 and the 660. i prefer to use the 660 on the bike as it has a bigger screen and is easier to see. cheers, Scott Edited August 8, 2011 by relic spelling
twigg Posted August 8, 2011 #6 Posted August 8, 2011 I just traded my Garmin 1490T for a Garmin 765T. Seems like the 765 will do just about everything the Zumo does. Price was $128 from Amazon. I know it's not waterproof, but baggies are.
Danaman Posted August 8, 2011 Author #7 Posted August 8, 2011 I am leaning towards the 550 but I see some of the reviews are saying the sound quality of the MP3 player is poor. If you have one please advise. Thanks
Hummingbird Posted August 8, 2011 #8 Posted August 8, 2011 I have the 550 but also have xm radio so I can't comment about the mp3
Condor Posted August 8, 2011 #9 Posted August 8, 2011 The Streetmaster c550 meets all the basic needs, and look just like the Zumo 550. Navigation, MP3.. sounds fine.., and Bluetooth if you want it. They've been discontinued but 'like new' units can be had on Ebay for $50-$75 bucks. Screen is readable except in extreme direct sunlight.
thecount Posted August 8, 2011 #10 Posted August 8, 2011 I have had the Zumo 665 for a year now. Love it. MP3 player? I find the Satelite XM radio with the 665 even better. As for map loading, I thought the same at first, but found out how wrong I was and do use this as well as trip route recording to record the route for another return ride. If XM is not in your picture, the 660 is the same, without the satelite feature. Worth the spend IMHO.
Gray Ghost Posted August 9, 2011 #11 Posted August 9, 2011 I just traded my Garmin 1490T for a Garmin 765T. Seems like the 765 will do just about everything the Zumo does. Price was $128 from Amazon. I know it's not waterproof, but baggies are. I have the 765 and like it, but it has been back to the shop twice now because the connections stopped working and it couldn't get power. I truly think that the vibration from the motorcycle killed the connections. But your experience may differ, and I do hope you have good luck with it.
