Thank you Yama Mama for bringing this to our attention. I do wish the very best for his family and friends, and in the best way I know how. Fuzzy Edited August 18, 2011 by FuzzyRSTD
DragonRider Posted August 6, 2011 #3 Posted August 6, 2011 Our prayers go out to his family and friends............................
Eck Posted August 6, 2011 #5 Posted August 6, 2011 I'm sorry to hear of this tragedy. My heart goes out to his family and friends. He died doing something, (I feel), the man upstairs would be very proud of... Helping in the time of need..pouring out his heart for others, loving, caring, and giving. I pray his family finds such closure.
Trader Posted August 7, 2011 #6 Posted August 7, 2011 I do feel badly for his family and for the added upset for the family whose funeral it was. But before everyone submits his name for sainthood lets consider a few things. He was a retired cop doing part time work...He could have been washing windows or riding escort for funerals...He did what he knew....I don't figure that is such a big deal. lets face it...he screwed up on at least 2 counts.he was passing on the right at what must have been a fairly high speed. He worked part time as an escort for the funeral company, but didn't know what cemetary the hearst was going to turn into? It is a shame for anyone to die....but If this was a kid on a rocket sled everyone would be speaking of this accident in a much more derogatory tone! Just my
skydoc_17 Posted August 7, 2011 #7 Posted August 7, 2011 Having recently been in an accident myself, I can honestly say that "you just never know" when these things are going to happen. Both Jean and I send prayers to this officer's family, and friends. I can hardly compare stopping at a Wal Mart for a carton of milk to the fine work this man was doing, but I can say, He will be missed. As my father was fond of saying,"He died with his boots on", I hope that his family can appreciate the fact that he was doing what he loved, and gave his life in the service of others. Honor, Duty, Service, A life worth living. Earl and Jean
myminpins Posted August 17, 2011 #8 Posted August 17, 2011 A good lesson to all of us to NEVER EVER pass on the right. At least he died doing what he loved. As a police officer, he honestly should have known better, though. I feel very badly for his family, children and friends. So unnecessary.
MasterGuns Posted August 17, 2011 #9 Posted August 17, 2011 I'm sure I speak for a good number of us but at least I for sure, am starting to feel very, very much like a "target" when I'm on my bike. This is just more very sad news about a fellow biker. My prayers are for this gentleman and his family too. He is just someone I'm now adding to the list I ask God to either for either timely and complete recovery or ask Him to bless the fallen and their loved ones. I am really having second thoughts about riding anymore. I still have a young lady who is the sole beneficiary of my working as I am paying her way through college so she needs me to be around. "God please continue to protect us all while riding", is how I close my prayers these days; use not to be. Ponch heal up brother and I hope to continue hearing more good news. That is still burned into my brain, sorry.
XV1100SE Posted August 17, 2011 #10 Posted August 17, 2011 He died doing something, (I feel), the man upstairs would be very proud of... Helping in the time of need..pouring out his heart for others, loving, caring, and giving. I pray his family finds such closure. Don't take this the wrong way but he was doing the escort work for any number of reasons : a) wanted to provide support for families in times of sorrow b) needed the extra money c) ........ I don't know his reason for him doing that work and frankly it doesn't matter. He is a rider that went down. I feel sympathy for the family and the rider but want to know the cause so hopefully I can avoid a similar situation in the future or be able to warn other's. As for him being a retired cop... he didn't have the accident in the line of duty. To me, if an Officer, Fireman, military person dies during the course of their duties it is not the same as if they died off-duty. lets face it...he screwed up on at least 2 counts. he was passing on the right at what must have been a fairly high speed. He worked part time as an escort for the funeral company, but didn't know what cemetary the hearst was going to turn into? I think the mistake that was made here was that he didn't know what entrance was going to be used. The procession was in the left lane probably to provide clearance to turn into the cemetary (might be a tight entrance) and the driver of the hearse didn't look to make sure the right lane was clear. The rider was probably expecting the next entrance to the cemetary to be used and was speeding to get ahead of the procession. Think it comes down to these two reasons for the accident and needless death - he didn't know what entrance and the hearse driver didn't look.

I'm sure I speak for a good number of us but at least I for sure, am starting to feel very, very much like a "target" when I'm on my bike. I am really having second thoughts about riding anymore. Going off topic on this thread but....Doing anything in life isn't always "safe". If you look at bike accident statistics, people turning left in front of us is still the most common reason for a biker down - we can't start avoiding intersections ! As always... we have to stay attentive, expect the unexpected (another way for saying "stupid actions of others"), be prepared for anything (animals, road debris, weather, mechanical failure), wear the proper gear... and the list goes on and on. When my kids were younger I made sure I was well insured in case anything happened to me. Money can't replace a parent or loved one though. It is up to each of us to decide whether the risk in anything we do is worth it and the impact to family and friends. But we can't stop living ourselves. If you are going to stop doing anything that has any risk associated with it then you aren't living. It isn't even safe to cross the street ! And don't start second guessing whether or not you should be riding or not - you start doing this and you will make a mistake! Do what you enjoy, keep those that make you feel good around you, don't sweat the small stuff, do unto others as you would have them do to you....
T.J. Posted August 17, 2011 #12 Posted August 17, 2011 Apparently some people just don't care about the religion and politics rule! And YES, prayers are in fact, very religious. It would be extremely ignorant to say otherwise. Bill Hello Bill, If I am wrong on my thoughts please clarify your comment. Unless I misunderstood you in your comment above. You don't care to see the word prayer? If this is the case, don't hit on Inspirational, Motivational, PRAYER REQUEST, Ect. Just pass it by Bill and it will be ok. Have a great day if you want to.

Where a few people take offense to religion/politics in threads is when they are in the "Watering Hole". To those people... just read offerings of prayers as best wishes. You aren't being told you have to have certain beliefs or attend a particular affiliation of church or belong to a particular political party to be right or wrong.
