CaptainJoe Posted August 4, 2011 #1 Posted August 4, 2011 Perhaps a poll is warranted(pun intended)... for second gen rear air shocks, asking if your rear shock went out before the 5 year warranty, and if so, how many times was it replaced? AT HOW MANY MILES YEARS? would be good to know what percentage of our organization has this problem?.... would be good ammo when addressing the yamaha customer service reps and just might force them to address the problem(use a better replacement shock).
Bobby G Posted August 4, 2011 #3 Posted August 4, 2011 My '99 still has the stock shock, and is functioning just fine (knock wood!).

When you create a new thread, scroll down and you will see where/how to create it as a poll. Go for it ....
RedRider Posted August 4, 2011 #5 Posted August 4, 2011 (edited) 97k miles on the OEM shock. Still working. RR Update Fall '13: At about 115k miles, it went out. Replaced with a Hagan. Edited October 13, 2014 by RedRider
djb47 Posted August 4, 2011 #6 Posted August 4, 2011 My 99 RSV shock gave out at 62,000, and I ended up replacing with one from Works. Just got back from 4,000 mile 12 day trip from KY to Canada and back. With their rough roads up north I was very glad to have the new shock under me. By the way Canada is a great ride but kind of pricey with the weak dollar.
brainfart Posted August 4, 2011 #7 Posted August 4, 2011 currently on shock #3 - '07 w/103,000 miles..
CaptainJoe Posted August 4, 2011 Author #8 Posted August 4, 2011 SilverT "When you create a new thread, scroll down and you will see where/how to create it as a poll. Go for it .... " I could do that but... If one of the moderators did it, more people(hundreds?) would be apt to reply. If I do it, I would only get a couple of dozen responces.... As you can see there are only five responces since this was posted... It was just a thought...
Seaking Posted August 4, 2011 #9 Posted August 4, 2011 2006 with two OEM shocks and now riding with Works! shock.. if I'm gonna have to spend money replacing a shock, might as well get one that can be rebuilt and serviced.. Talk about built in crap..
Linemech Posted August 4, 2011 #10 Posted August 4, 2011 2008 on the second shock. First one lasted about 26000 miles.
Seaking Posted August 4, 2011 #11 Posted August 4, 2011 My buddy's 2008 shock recently went after 80,000 kms..
99silver Posted August 4, 2011 #13 Posted August 4, 2011 99 rsv 45k on the third shock 1st one went under 10k second at 42k I hope the third lasts forever at the price Yamaha charges for them. Please do a poll.....
bikenut Posted August 4, 2011 #14 Posted August 4, 2011 Third one on my 2006. One oil leaked out two made bad noises so they replaced it with no questions . Have a great day riding:fingers-crossed-emo
SilvrT Posted August 4, 2011 #15 Posted August 4, 2011 As you can see there are only five responces since this was posted... and that's probably because most of the others are off doing other things at this time of day / year. More folks read and post in the evenings/weekends/winter time I suspect. Not everyone is in my situation whereby I can sit at work all day and play on this site LOL
Condor Posted August 4, 2011 #16 Posted August 4, 2011 My 99 was replaced after 27,000 miles under warantee. Replacement is doing OK after 50,000.
FuzzyRSTD Posted August 4, 2011 #17 Posted August 4, 2011 No problem so far - 2007 RSTD 13,500 miles. I am worried though. Fuzzy
awsmsrv Posted August 4, 2011 #18 Posted August 4, 2011 Sorry but my 05 is good and holding My '99 still has the stock shock, and is functioning just fine (knock wood!). My '06 is still fine after 48K miles.

ahoutzer Posted August 5, 2011 #21 Posted August 5, 2011 2006, still working with the original shock after 94,900 miles.
BradT Posted August 5, 2011 #22 Posted August 5, 2011 My 99 went out approx 50,000 miles, not under warranty but I got a used shock that worked well. Brad
