Owen Posted August 3, 2011 #1 Posted August 3, 2011 I'm looking for a cooler to fit in a 2nd gen saddlebag... you know... doesn't leak, keeps beverages cold. Anyone got something that works well?
SaltyDog Posted August 3, 2011 #2 Posted August 3, 2011 These guys have a pretty good looking product. It may be what you were looking for. I have seen them talkied about on another site I frequent (Advrider.com). http://www.polarbearcoolers.com/
Sideoftheroad Posted August 3, 2011 #3 Posted August 3, 2011 Not sure about condensation outside the bag but how bout just a trashbag.
M61A1MECH Posted August 3, 2011 #4 Posted August 3, 2011 I bought one from American Eagle Leatherworks back in 2002, used to strap it to the luggage rack on my 98 Tour Classic, never leaked always kept eveything cold. The one I have is a little big for the saddle bags, but I can put it in the trunk, works great. Looks like they have one designed for saddle bags on their site. See link below. http://www.eagleleatherworks.com/coolers.html
Monty Posted August 3, 2011 #5 Posted August 3, 2011 I had a cooler rack made for my hitch....love it.
Midrsv Posted August 3, 2011 #6 Posted August 3, 2011 We use a small soft side cooler from LL Bean. Similar to this one: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/63702?feat=63703-ppxs&dds=y It holds about water bottles or cans. Dennis
Eck Posted August 3, 2011 #7 Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) You can get a cheaper cooler bag something on the order like Midrsv is speaking of from Wal-Mart for about $9 bucks. Like Monte, I went to Lowes (4 yrs ago), and bought some aluminum angle and made a cheap cooler rack that fits on my trailer hitch. When I made the cooler rack, I made it to FIT an existing cooler I had sitting in the garage that holds a 6 pack.. It works great... Edited August 3, 2011 by Eck
Guest tx2sturgis Posted August 3, 2011 #8 Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) I have the HD saddlebag cooler and it works well for daytrips...its thickly padded but will hold several cans, and a small amount of ice, (or a prefrozen icepack). I found it ideal for carrying a couple of cold sandwiches and a couple bottled drinks that are chilled, and it will keep them cool for several hours. If you pre-freeze some small water bottles then use them as the icepacks, you can drink them when they thaw out and not have to worry about carrying and returning those thawed liquid ice-packs. It WILL fit in the Venture saddlebag, but takes up about 3/4 of the interior space. Some of the HD dealerships have them on the shelf. http://www.grharley.com/HARLEY_TOURING_SLANT_SADDLEBAG_COOLER_p/94184-01.htm?gdftrk=gdfV22200_a_7c1220_a_7c5274_a_7c94184_d_01 Here is something similar: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/TBAGS-SADDLEBAG-COOLER-TBAG-TB6100SBC/dp/B0041PNPU2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312343628&sr=8-1]Amazon.com: TBAGS SADDLEBAG COOLER TBAG TB6100SBC: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41a89fP2gqL.@@AMEPARAM@@41a89fP2gqL[/ame] http://tbags.com/detail.aspx?ID=110&SelectedCat=3 Edited August 3, 2011 by tx2sturgis
Globewalker Posted August 3, 2011 #9 Posted August 3, 2011 I have this small 6 can one from WallyWorld http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-6-Can-Cooler-with-Removable-Hardliner-Blue/16523743 it fits easy enough and is ok for a lite load Has a hardliner so wont leak .. unless ice melts and splashes out.. 7" depth is about all you have to get it in past the lock .. so longer and taller would work but not deeper
GaThumper Posted August 3, 2011 #10 Posted August 3, 2011 I bought a Polar Bear 12 pack cooler for my Kayaka nd it is a GREAT quality cooler. I haven't tried it in the saddlebags yet, but it looks like it may fit? However... this is the one I'm thinking about! http://www.aocoolers.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_ID=61&ParentCat=16 http://www.aocoolers.com/images/18saddle.jpg
Owen Posted August 3, 2011 Author #11 Posted August 3, 2011 Thanks for the feedback! I see there are more choices than the ones I initially found. I like the looks of the PolarBear and may end up with one of those, but the price of the Wally world one warrants a closer look.
