Skid Posted August 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2011 Had anyone else experienced a hissing noise with the EBC HH brake pads? I just put mine on a couple weeks ago and they hiss when applying the rear brake?
Squidley Posted August 2, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 2, 2011 It's the rear caliper not fully releasing and the pad is dragging a bit Jeff, very common issue with that back caliper on the G2's.
Bubber Posted August 2, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 2, 2011 I was thinking of getting the HH pads for my bike. I don't have any experience with them yet. I will be watching the thread for more info. Where did you get them and how much? If you don't mind me asking?
Skid Posted August 2, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted August 2, 2011 Brad, they only hiss when I'm applying the brake, never any other time. And Bubber I got them for about $34.00 at the local Yamaha Shop.
Squidley Posted August 2, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 2, 2011 Bubber, I wouldn't recommend getting the HH's for the rear of the RSV. The back brake caliper locks up way too easy and the HH will add to that as it is very aggressive. Put the HH's on the front and a strait organic on the rear, you'll be a lot happier not locking up the rear caliper
Bubber Posted August 2, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 2, 2011 Well you must have read my mind. I replaced the rears in the Spring with organics and when I was at Cody my wife could hear the front making noise. I looked and others looked too, and said that there was plenty on the front but I was going to look by taking the frt wheel off and make a determination if I should replace the fronts at this time. Only got 19.5K on them so I would think they are still good... we'll see.

N3FOL Posted August 12, 2011 Share #9 Posted August 12, 2011 Are EBC's semi metallic? I also saw SEmi metallics online at a lesser price. IT is time for me to replace my rear pads. I need your best recommendation.

Guest Posted August 12, 2011 Share #11 Posted August 12, 2011 Not to create any havoc here but I have been running the EBC HH pads front and rear for a number of years now. Never had the rear wheel lock up on me unless it was an extreme panic stop and it also locked up with the stock pads too. Plus my rear caliper has been rebuilt and im using a stainless steel braided brake line. But then, it just may take an awful of of brake power just to haul my fat butt down to a stop. I need your best recommendation. EBC makes both. I prefer the non metallic on non-ABS brakes. A bike that goes down because a wheel locked up is worse than taking a few extra feet to stop. A matter of preference, as I said. Most people here seem to prefer the HH metallic, however.
stroker ace Posted August 12, 2011 Share #13 Posted August 12, 2011 Had anyone else experienced a hissing noise with the EBC HH brake pads? I just put mine on a couple weeks ago and they hiss when applying the rear brake? Yes the noise is part of the sintered brake pads from my experience, even more noticeable when on the front. The rear locks up regardless of the type of pad you have, I run the HH pads because they last a lot longer on the rear. It's kind of like oil and tires everyone has one they like/think is better. Monty Posted August 12, 2011 Share #14 Posted August 12, 2011 I use the HH pads, and they make a clicking sound as the pads pass over the holes in the rotor. I can live with the sound, as I like them in every other way. Never have locked up the rear wheel either.
flb_78 Posted August 12, 2011 Share #15 Posted August 12, 2011 Yup, I have the HH pads on the rear of my RSV and it's nice not having to change them out with every tire change. I can make it 2 tire changes now on a set of rear pads. They are a little noisier, but they're also semi metallic on a steel disc. metal on metal. BuddyRich Posted August 12, 2011 Share #16 Posted August 12, 2011 I run the double HH on my rear and don't have a problem with locking up. Its just a matter of feel. You adjust for any changes. Yes Jeff that is a good description is hissing. I really don't notice it now. Maybe it goes away with wear in.
