Whistler Posted July 28, 2011 #1 Posted July 28, 2011 I know there has been other threads on this but it almost time for me to get new tires and what I am seeing is Avon Venoms or Metzlers or stock .Any other brands that are any good out there...... Ron:cool10:
gibvel Posted July 28, 2011 #2 Posted July 28, 2011 Dunlop E3s have been getting some good press around here. Metzlers, on the other hand, have been known to throw chunks of rubber for some and not for others. Maybe a crap shoot! Avon has been having issues with sidewall cracking that some here have been told has been fixed. I've had Avon since I've owned the scoot and haven't had any problems with the cracking. Stock Bridgstones are hailed as, pretty much, crap around these parts as far as handling and longevity.
lshafer Posted July 29, 2011 #3 Posted July 29, 2011 E3's have my vote. I've had them since May and love them. Of course, they have been my only experience since the stock Bridgestones which work better as lawn edging than motorcycle tires!!! Seriously, the E3's are great. I doubt you'd be disappointed.
Guest Posted July 29, 2011 #4 Posted July 29, 2011 I dont recommend the Metzelers and have no first hand experience with the E3's but I do know the Avons have been good to me through 3 sets.
Guest scarylarry Posted July 29, 2011 #5 Posted July 29, 2011 Mine came with bridgestones "trash" then I put on a set E3's got around 15k miles out of them great tire some road noise from them and on handling 7 out 10. Then I went to Avon's which now have 8k miles on them look great and no noise and 9.5 out of 10 for handling.. I do inspect the tires real good weekly for cracks and it has been mention but mine has not had any.. I wanted to try Michellin next time but for now they don't make a tire for the RSV so I will stick with Avons, Avons cost a little more and if that is a issue I would go with the E3's
eusa1 Posted July 29, 2011 #6 Posted July 29, 2011 I wanted to try Michellin next time but for now they don't make a tire for the RSV i have run a dozen sets of michelin commanders on the rsv....don't they sell them in your part of the world?

Ok, I was wrong but I read here or thought I did they stopped making the commander tires for the RSV..
N3FOL Posted July 29, 2011 #8 Posted July 29, 2011 I'm probably the only one that likes the stock Bridgestones on an RSV. I'm on my 2nd set currently and has clocked in over 25K miles. OEM brand tires works for me and they are priced right. I got a couple of rears for 92 bucks each shipped and a front for 88 bucks shipped. Make your choice and be happy with it. Ride Safe.
Guest Posted July 29, 2011 #9 Posted July 29, 2011 I too thought they stopped making the Mich Commanders. A friend bought 2 a few months ago after searching dozens of sites. He was told that they were discontinued.
eusa1 Posted July 29, 2011 #10 Posted July 29, 2011 they are still available, yes they are discontinuing them, and introducing the commander II this fall:cool10:
Guest scarylarry Posted July 29, 2011 #11 Posted July 29, 2011 Mich. website still shows them but Jake Wilson didn't have any.. JW is the only place I will do business with great service and prices would be very hard to bail out on them..
