OldBear Posted July 27, 2011 #26 Posted July 27, 2011 They also said it came without CD player, I would never use it but I think they sold it. I bought a new 09. It came with two keys, the metal ID tag with key number AND the CD player. ALL STANDARD... Methinks something is rotten in Denmark.....
Panjandrum Posted July 27, 2011 #27 Posted July 27, 2011 I had the key for my '08 stolen together with the leather jacket that it was in. My insurance covered the cost of re-keying ALL the locks on the bike ($650 I think), so I still have one key to unlock everything. So, clearly it is possible to re-do the locks on the bags, gas cap and helmet locks. I beleive they did have to replace the ignition lock... then made the others work with the new key.
eusa1 Posted July 27, 2011 #28 Posted July 27, 2011 fact: not speculation. fall of 1999 yamaha came out with the rsv and it came with all locks using the same key, the bike came with 2 keys and a key tag with a number to make more keys. that same ignition and locks has been used on every year up to current 2011 rsv's and the only change has been the key heads appearance. fiction: ANY dealer that says the locks or ignition can't be changed without having different keys.= LAZY DEALER i have replaced the ignition switch on several rsv's and several saddlebags and the tumblers WILL come out and CAN be changed. by the way, the key to my 2003 rsv fits all my locks, ignition and my matching trailer, and all the locks on my prev. 2003 rsv also
Art708 Posted July 27, 2011 #29 Posted July 27, 2011 Both my '07 RSTD and my '09 RSV came with 2 keys the same. The ignition, tank, and bags on each were keyed the same so I had 2 working keys for each bike.
scooter45 Posted August 8, 2011 Author #30 Posted August 8, 2011 Some one asked for photos of my flag poles, still wait for dealer to say anything about keys, they also broke the chrome trim under windshield they trader the one of my 03 instead of ordering a new one. Star called and asked about the bike the other day no word from dealer.
MikeWa Posted August 8, 2011 #31 Posted August 8, 2011 Everything should work with the same key. The CD changer was standard on 09s. I have an extra Clarion cd changer around here someplace. It is yours if you want it. PM me and I will check on shipping cost. It requires a c-bus cable to be plug and play. These are available on e-bay from about $8 up to as much as you want to spend. You might check to see if the factory cable is still on your bike. It is easier to take (steal) the changer than the cable. There are also some posts on installing the changer in the trunk which I like better than the saddlebag. Mike
Carbon_One Posted August 8, 2011 #32 Posted August 8, 2011 05 Midight. 2 keys both of which opened and locked everything and operated the ign switch. Larry
scooter45 Posted August 19, 2011 Author #33 Posted August 19, 2011 Called Star when you order a lock you you get wht you get, so when the dealer got the bike they must have miss placed the locks so they nned to be replaced not a good answer, But next time it will be a different dealer and a diifferent brand.
myminpins Posted August 19, 2011 #34 Posted August 19, 2011 '06 - two keys - both open everything. Hope you get it straightened out somehow. I'd never want to haul around that many keys - that's nuts. Can you get them rekeyed at the dealer's expense??
Guest scarylarry Posted August 19, 2011 #35 Posted August 19, 2011 Called Star when you order a lock you you get wht you get, so when the dealer got the bike they must have miss placed the locks so they nned to be replaced not a good answer, But next time it will be a different dealer and a diifferent brand. I wouldn't settle for that, I would be raising he** with both dealer and yammy...
Kirby Posted August 19, 2011 #36 Posted August 19, 2011 I've got an 09 and like everyone else, one key fits everything plus one spare key. You should also have a stamped coded tag so that you can have other keys made if needed. Mine also came with the CD player as standard.
Condor Posted August 20, 2011 #37 Posted August 20, 2011 Whats this one key fits all stuff? both my "99"s use two keys, one ignition, one for the gas and bags. Your ignition switch may have gone bad and replaced... with a new key.. My '99 has just one...
scooter45 Posted September 16, 2011 Author #38 Posted September 16, 2011 I got a letter from Star asking if my concerns had been resolved, So I called same story and no help would not buy anything from Yamaha again!!
XV1100SE Posted September 16, 2011 #39 Posted September 16, 2011 I got a letter from Star asking if my concerns had been resolved, So I called same story and no help would not buy anything from Yamaha again!! Don't think your issue is with Yamaha but the dealer itself. True, Yamaha should have replaced the locks with matching sets so one key works all but the dealer must have caused the initial problem (mix and match locks/keys). Call Yamaha again.
scooter45 Posted October 12, 2011 Author #40 Posted October 12, 2011 Yamaha and dealer clled me back after sending them a copy of what had been posted. they are going to have a locksmith look at the locks to rekey them.
RedRider Posted October 12, 2011 #41 Posted October 12, 2011 Good to hear it looks like the dealer is stepping up (or being pushed up) to the plate. If it doesn't get resolved, and you would like a single key, you can get a complete set of locks, with keys, from Pinwall for about $150. RR
Mel Posted October 12, 2011 #42 Posted October 12, 2011 Some one asked for photos of my flag poles, still wait for dealer to say anything about keys, they also broke the chrome trim under windshield they trader the one of my 03 instead of ordering a new one. Star called and asked about the bike the other day no word from dealer. I recognize those flag staffs!!! I made them, sold 'em when I traded for my wing. I had them originally on a V Star 650, then modified them to mount on the saddle bag rails in my '07 Venture. How are they working out for you?
RandyR Posted October 12, 2011 #43 Posted October 12, 2011 I've got an 09 and like everyone else, one key fits everything plus one spare key. You should also have a stamped coded tag so that you can have other keys made if needed. Mine also came with the CD player as standard. The stamped coded tag I got with my 2000 didn't match the locks or key. I found this out after having a locksmith make a set of keys using the code
scooter45 Posted January 10, 2012 Author #44 Posted January 10, 2012 Droped locks off at dealer, They called back today they where able to rekey to one key for everything:322:
SilvrT Posted January 10, 2012 #45 Posted January 10, 2012 I also now that at least from 07 and newer there is one key for everything. My '06 had only ONE key fits everything. It came with 2 keys...the 2nd was a spare.
Sailor Posted January 10, 2012 #46 Posted January 10, 2012 On my 02 I got two identical keys that operated everything. Check your bike thoroughly for any signs of hidden damage. Sounds like parts have been replaced to me.
awsmsrv Posted January 10, 2012 #47 Posted January 10, 2012 Yeah, I've got 1 key, too, but it's cut different on each side because the 2nd time the ignition needed to be replaced Mama Yama wouldn't rekey it to work with the bags, trunk, helmet locks, so, now I just insert the key one way for some, the other way for the others. Works great.
Uturn Posted January 14, 2012 #48 Posted January 14, 2012 Dealer told me the early models used two keys, but they can cut a single key to do everything. I know my 99, a buddy's 04, 05 and my 06...all had one key until the ignition was changed on my '99 - then I had the two keys double side cut to allow only one key. Either your dealer is mis-informed or a big liar. Your decision of which one. Good luck in future dealing with them. MIKE aka Uturn
Pegasus1300 Posted January 15, 2012 #50 Posted January 15, 2012 All Ventures from 1983 to present came from the factory with all locks keyed to a single key.You should have gotten a main key, a 2nd identical spare key and a metal tag with the key code on it. If you got anything else something was changed by the dealer or at the distribution warehouse or in shipping.
