Trader Posted July 24, 2011 #1 Posted July 24, 2011 I haven't dug into the new 88VR yet...(took my wife for a ride today and she likes the ride better than the 83 or 84. One thing I have noticed....when the bike is hot I have NO ISSUES with slow starter syndrome that plagued both the older bikes. Is this probably because the PO fixed something (4 brush starter or 4 gu wire or better ground ala dingy's mod) Or Did they make some changes and improvements to correct the problem at the factory?
cimmer Posted July 24, 2011 #2 Posted July 24, 2011 Hard to say without seeing it but I know my 89 had slow crank issues. Battery cable upgrade and a Deka AGM battery seemed to fix those issues. Consider yourself lucky and go with that and when you get a chance, check out and see if you have the better cables and battery. Let us know.. Rick F.
Yammer Dan Posted July 24, 2011 #3 Posted July 24, 2011 Yeah something probally been upgraded there. Just Earl's Glass Mat battery cured "Ugly" She cranks like a new one.
Jayceesfolly Posted July 24, 2011 #4 Posted July 24, 2011 Steve: My 89 Vr and 83 VR both had the hot start problem. Put a Odyssey AGM in the 83 Blonde and a AGM from Earl in the 89 VR and it cured the problem for both bikes. Jim Since your wife likes the new bike, does that mean you are bringing her to my M & E in two weeks?
bongobobny Posted July 24, 2011 #5 Posted July 24, 2011 I concur with the above. No system changes were made to the starter or battery cables, so most likely the PO already fixed it...
