well decided to change both tires , How hard is it to remove tires of the rims .I want to take them of and change them myself and have them balanced at my repair shop.Any special tools needed .

If you are going to have them balanced at a repair shop, let them change them out also. While you have the rear off, lube the splines and clean the wheel. Also, check your brakes since you will be removing them also.

Good luck. FYI - this is a good time to have a Larry Lift. This is a lift adapter from Carbon One which makes the bike VERY stable while in the air. Also, it is a good time to put on levelling links (DiamondR.com) if you are not going with a smaller front tire.

Changing bike tires is a pain in the butt. I used to change em myself on my Roadstar, but, anymore, it's worth 15 bux to have someone else mount em up. I don't balance tires.

I guess each to his own. I rather enjoy changing my tires myself. I bought some motorcycle tire tools from JC Whitney and found it to be something I can certainly do myself. The only hard part is breaking the bead. They make a tool for that but I made my own. I assume you are wanting to cahnge your Venture tires. The ones with spokes are easier to break. Good luck.

I change mine most of the time, even been known to balance them from time to time but I recommend you have them balanced on a machine.

I use a 30 gallon barrel to work on. Use a large C clamp to break the bead and a couple of tire tools to get the tire off. I have some thick pieces of Teflon (1/16 to 1/8 inch) to protect the rims.

Been doing it for years. But then again I have been accused of being cheap also.

Good luck,

To protect the rim I use a cut up tennis ball. It's cut in 4 pieces and put where ever you use the tire tool. I also run a piece of all thread through the axle hole and "mount" the rim to my workbench. This really helps. A work of caution though.. You may have friends that want to come over and "watch" you change their tires. This has always been fun for me. IF they take them off their bike it only takes a short while to make them happy.
