You just described 90% of my slow speed turns/u-turns. Doesn't embarrass me one bit. As long as it stays upright I'm cool with it.

Someone hit the nail on the head, our police HD's are 3.5" shorter than my RSV. The courses are measured for the HD common police bikes. When I went to motor school and saw the cones I snickered to myself and said there is no WAY I'm gonna manuever through those!! Two days later, I was! Its all in keeping your head and eyes up, turning your head to the maximum extent, not being afraid of dropping the bike ( hey, it wasn't MINE LOL), back brake with some power and friction zone. With a modified course the RSV would easily make that course!!

You hit the nail right on the head. I live in Grand Prairie, Tx. were that video was shot and although I'm not a motor officer I have a lot of friends who are on Grand Prairie's force and do get invited to watch them practice and even get to ride the course (somewhat modified) on a regular basis. The key in my opion is keep that head up and turning in the direction of of the turn your attempting to make. Every officer there says the same thing. "If you look down you're going to go down" Practice Practice & then Practice some more and you'll amaze yourself at what you can accomplish in just a few days.

Would be nice if for next years International we could get motorcycle cops to do a demo (make it a public showing, not just for VentureRiders) or invite the "Ride Like a Pro" people to do a training day.

I guess my point for the offended is this is a good low speed skill to know. I did say it poorly. ( Im referring to guys who refuse to learn new stuff cause they ve been riding around forever these are the same types that use only back brake cause if they use the front brake especially hard they are going to go down or flip over the handle bars this is the reason we have linked brakes today. ) I want people understand this is a low speed skill it does not translate to higher speed stuff balances are different but it is a good foundation to start with and well worth the time to learn, but your not going to be a magic rider its just one part of riding education. Never stop learning.

I agree it is an excellent skill to learn and I admire anyone who has mastered it, I wasnt offended just agreeing with anothers point of view. I would love to be able to whip a big bike around like that, unfortunately I am not prepared to drop my bike numerous times to learn. I also agree its not necessary to have those skills in order to be a competent rider, I have the ride like a pro DVD have practiced quite a bit, but havent taken it to the edge, cause I dont want to deliberately drop the bike. But hey thats just me, BTW I do use my front brake all the time:big-grin-emoticon: Craig

They use firehose around guards to prevent scratches . Extremely tough material. Floor boards are dragging or kick stands they burn thru a clutch pretty quickly if they do it wrong. The newer harley clutches i guess arent lasting as well as their older bikes for some reason.

now if i came across an obstacle like that cones set up, i would put my bike on its side stand, and just walk it. and if i was in a hurry, i would run....simple. no damage or harm done.

I bet you would still knock some cones down or get lost in the maze.:rotfl:As for me I think the chalange is to get as maney as possible:bang head:
