oldgoat Posted July 12, 2011 #1 Posted July 12, 2011 i have talked to the loan company about my motorcycle there is a small loan on it that is now being paid by the insurance company. i took out that benifit in case of finance problems so far there paying the loan payments. but they will release the bike for the right price? as of right now its back together just needs some things tighten up and i will go up there and do this latter. as most pepole know im in a finance bind and can hardley make ends meet. the storage runs $75 a month and after august i can no longer afford this. so my thoughts are sell it give the money to the loan company and get out from under it. or if someone close by is willing to store it for free that would be great!!! im looking at this workers comp case to end by december. also the loan company said i could just trade it and they would hold the title to the new bike. and the insurance pepole will still make payments. so that gave me another thought maybe someone has a smaller bike that runs they would trade straight up for so i can do a little ridding this year? ihate to get rid of it. but here is a list if what has been done to it #1 new dunlop tires 404 last year less then 500 miles on them. #2 skydocks fuse up grade #3 nice exhaust put on used from ebay but all there from front to back includeing the nice collector. and turn down tips. #4 new brakes with new rear rotor this was a $1200 fix that was part of haveing the exhaust and brakes done. have recipet. #5 used radiotor from skydock and used hoses new antifreeze installed i ran the bike and no leaks thanks skydock and the other member who gave me the hoses. also installed the side plugs? that dingy sent again no leaks. #6 nice battery that i bought at a harley shop cost $125 gel type less then 7 months old and i used skydocks battery sender wire to stop the flashing light on the computer. and im sure there is other stuff im forgetting? now the bad she needs the carbs sync she idles ok but needs the choke to start it? after about a minute choke can be pulled off and she idles but a little rough? seafoam was added at storage and new plugs installed. she needs a paint job its faded and there are some of the usual crack. rear trunk passenger pad needs to be redone shes ripped. ihvae the chrome rack but nedds 2 screws removed they broke off but the rack is still nice and shinny. could use a new clutch and front brake master the sight glass is ugly. a little time by you experts here and this bike will run like it should. it has 77k on her. but if some one is willing to store it i would like to keep it or trade for a small bike till next year once again many thanks to all of the help from you great pepole sincerly oldgoat
dingy Posted July 12, 2011 #3 Posted July 12, 2011 James, I know you put some money in the bike, but the plain reality of it is that is not going to make much difference. Anyone that has something like this, in a sense, a classic, knows they are basically a money pit. I will never get 25% of what I have in my bike, but it is a hobby to me. Kelly Blue book value for a 1200 Venture in good condition is $1200. http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/trade-in/1984/yamaha/xvz12lr-r-venture/81845/ Curb appeal is a major factor in selling a bike in general. The faded paint won't help. Backrest being damaged is something a buyer is going to use to drive price down. Sure, it will help with good tires brakes and battery, but people won't consider that. They will look for any negative and use it as a wedge to get your price lower. Especially if you look like a motivated seller, which you are. Without having seen the bike and rode it, I would think that $750 will be a target. Sorry I couldn't be more positive with this. Gary
oldgoat Posted July 12, 2011 Author #4 Posted July 12, 2011 thanks dingy i understand you never get what ya put into it. i once sold a car for $25 over what i owed the loan company just to get the loan out of my hands and a second car i didnt need anymore. im not expecting a gold mine this bike needs some TLC. and as you can see i realy realy dont want to part with it. but times are tough my friend. if some one like mike eusa up in dixon IL and thats not far from here could put this up some where for free till next spring that would be great but i hate to ask him. pepole have done so much for me here . im trying to see if i could get help to just maybe put it right under my front window? i need some pepole to drive or push it up there and being its grass i need something under the side stand? and i can just cover it up till spring. please understand im not trying to beg someone to buy this. just trying to make it till another and hopefully a better year.
twigg Posted July 13, 2011 #5 Posted July 13, 2011 I wish you well with it. As you know, you won't get back what you have put into it, we never do! But .... It's a motorcycle, and if you do need to sell it, then it's just a motorcycle and there will be others when you are ready. Selling at a loss now would hurt, but you will find another one later that someone else has poured money into. It's a good time to sell .... Try it on Craigslist at $1200, and see how you go with it. More if you think you can get it, but Gary was right ... the paintwork and general appearance is what sells bikes.
bkuhr Posted July 13, 2011 #6 Posted July 13, 2011 I recently sold my 82 yamaha 750 seca for $1100. Was not prettiest, but was in great mechanical shape except tires were dry rot cracking. Very upfront about every thing and advised I would not ride much without new tires. Buyer was new rider with no MC endorsement but he brought a friend to test ride, and his friend was real inpressed with 'sportyness', and told him it was good buy. Have seen it a few times around town, mean to stop him sometime and ask if he is happy. KBB lists for $750 I listed CL and local paper for $1200 figured I would let buyer talk me down to $1000 but we agreed at $1100. I figured, and stated 'where else can you buy any bike for $1000' Thought I made out good, hope you can do the same. Really hated giving it up as it was so reliable and fun, but I decided I need to be 100% in the venture. I bought the venture for $300, but have spent more than $1000 on it, with more to go- and thats not even safety chrome
Flyinfool Posted July 13, 2011 #7 Posted July 13, 2011 (edited) I would think that we can find someone here close enough to help you move it to under your front window. How hard can that be? Mine get ridden across grass every day. As far as long term parking on grass, Get 3 of the heavy type patio/driveway blocks and put one under each tire and one under the side stand. This will keep any of the points from sinking and it will still think it is on concrete. If you are going to cover it and have it stored outside I would also consider adding a couple of stakes and tiedowns to make sure that some wind storm does not knock it over. If you put a tarp down first, you will stop much of the damp that rises out of the ground and settles on the relatively colder metal above it. In a pinch, even black trashcan liners would do.
oldgoat Posted July 13, 2011 Author #10 Posted July 13, 2011 thanks never thought about trash liners or patio blocks? and with the cover i got with the bike i should be good to go. got help comming . to move it and put it in the little area by my window. going to be a little fun as we have to push it back in to that spot so that it can be drivin forward next spring to get it down the side walk and on to the road. so all looks good. i would drive it but still not to sure about the hoses? they where used but in good condition but with my health now if it broke down in that 3 mile ride from the storage unit to my place i would never be able to move it. lets just say im a little scared to try it. now this will save me some$$ in storage fees and i wont have to listen to the old lady up there yelling that im working on my bike. should have seen her today while i was up there cleaning the place and getting ready to get this home maybe next weekend. i thought she was going to run the golf cart into the pole LOL and sure enough less than a half hour latter she pulls up and said i called my boss and your not to be working on the motorcycle. i politely said look im cleaning see me putting stuff in my car and sweeping up a little? and yes i did put a small part on the bike and yes im going to put the rest of these litttle nuts and bolts on. so please be informed that by the first of next month i will be out of here. cant wait till im out out of there.
Flyinfool Posted July 13, 2011 #11 Posted July 13, 2011 It is also easier to work on stuff at home where you can go out and kill a few minutes at a time without having to traipse across town. That way if get tired or to hot you just wander back in the house for a cold one and a rest.
