Sideoftheroad Posted July 5, 2011 #1 Posted July 5, 2011 It's been a while since I have had a tach on the bike so to me the #'s are a bit high, but could be wrong. 45 mph, 5 gear, 2k 50 mph, 5 gear, 21k (small gap between the 2k bar and the needle) Thanks
painterman67 Posted July 5, 2011 #2 Posted July 5, 2011 ok so mine is a 1st gen. Geard different so the readings will be a bit higher. 4th gear @45 mph is 3000 5th gear @ 50 mph is 2500 not sure if it will help David
Scooter Bob Posted July 5, 2011 #3 Posted July 5, 2011 This isn't the chart I was looking for, but it may help till I find the other one. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5881
Scooter Bob Posted July 5, 2011 #4 Posted July 5, 2011 Moderators, I got this chart from that "other" venture site. Please remove this post if that was inappropriate. But it is a nice chart...
massey130 Posted July 5, 2011 #5 Posted July 5, 2011 I don't look at it that much, but I do note idle is about 950 RPM and 5th gear @ 70 MPH is about 3200 RPM. between watching traffic and scenery, my tach is mostly ignored.
BuddyRich Posted July 5, 2011 #6 Posted July 5, 2011 Yea, the chart is right for a corrected speedo. I take 2nd to 63 or so sometimes. I NEVER even think about 5th below 70. At 55 I am still in 3rd lots of times.
dingy Posted July 5, 2011 #7 Posted July 5, 2011 Attached is an excel spread sheet that was started by lilbeaver and I expanded on the concept. It is set up when opened for a 1st gen Venture with a Venture final drive and a 140/90-16 rear tire. Any of the tan fields can be modified to see what different parameters would do. Gary
Sideoftheroad Posted July 6, 2011 Author #8 Posted July 6, 2011 This isn't the chart I was looking for, but it may help till I find the other one. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5881 This seems to be pretty close since members have said w/ the vmax swap it raises RPM by about 500. My driving lately has been around town so not sure when I will be able to get it up to 70 mph next. Knowing my luck a LEO would be lurking around the corner and catch me doing 70 in a 45. If anyone can look next time they are on the scoot, I would appreciate it.
Bummer Posted July 6, 2011 #9 Posted July 6, 2011 It's been a while since I have had a tach on the bike so to me the #'s are a bit high, but could be wrong. 45 mph, 5 gear, 2k 50 mph, 5 gear, 21k (small gap between the 2k bar and the needle) Thanks Yep. That's about right. (Corrected speedo.) I checked on the way to work last night. Then I downshifted twice to get the rpms back up where they belong. 45 in 5th? Oh no. I'm a 3rd kind of guy.
Sideoftheroad Posted July 6, 2011 Author #10 Posted July 6, 2011 I'm an overacheiver I guess being in a higher gear at lower speeds. LOL. Took a major road this morning and got 3k at 70 mph. Also to make sure we are talking apples to apples, when I say 45, 50 & 70 mph this is looking at the speedo, not gps.
BuddyRich Posted July 6, 2011 #11 Posted July 6, 2011 If you don't have a speedohealer installed then your about 8% slower then what the speedo is reading. That's why I was using the phrase "corrected speed". When your stock speedo reads 70 your actually only doing about 64.
Scooter Bob Posted July 6, 2011 #12 Posted July 6, 2011 I'm an overacheiver I guess being in a higher gear at lower speeds. LOL. Me too, I think it comes from 18 years of riding HD's before the RSV.
