Badhardtail Posted July 3, 2011 #1 Posted July 3, 2011 Hello everyone, years ago someone posted plans on how to maked a hitch for the 2nd generation Venture. I've searched everywhere but the right where and can't find them, can anyone help me out thanks Josh
midnightventure Posted July 3, 2011 #2 Posted July 3, 2011 (edited) I made my own several years ago. No plans. Hope I don't forget anything because it's been a while. There is a brace that runs between the saddle bag frame work. I removed it and cut a couple of 7 gauge pcs the same shape as the sides. Used a transfer punch to transfer the mounting hole locations to one piece and then used that piece to mark the other on. If I remember right I tapped the mounting holes to the same thread as the original. Then I mounted the pieces where the brace used to be. Then I carefully measured the width of the cross piece and cut a piece of 1 1/2" square tubing to fit. I fitted it in where it was parallel to the ground and welded it in. If anything it needs to tilt up a little so when there is weight on the bike it is parallel. Then I cut another piece of 1 1/2" square tubing 4" long to make a reciever. The tubing needs to be 1/8" and then a 1 1/4" hitch will slip in. I remember I had to grind the internal weld down smooth to get it to go in. I actually never used a factory hitch because I built my single wheel trailer with a 1 1/4" tounge that slipped right in. I was just out looking and noticed I also had to weld 2 small tabs out the back for more mounting holes. http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad166/midnightventure/trailer%20hitch/CIMG1246.jpg http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad166/midnightventure/trailer%20hitch/CIMG1244.jpg http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad166/midnightventure/trailer%20hitch/CIMG1243.jpg http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad166/midnightventure/trailer%20hitch/CIMG1242-1.jpg Edited July 3, 2011 by midnightventure additional info
midnightventure Posted July 3, 2011 #3 Posted July 3, 2011 I welded the nut on the right side to put a bolt in to tighten things up but discovered it was unnecessary.
Badhardtail Posted July 4, 2011 Author #4 Posted July 4, 2011 Hey thanks Midnight I think that this is the one that I saw. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out the measurements! Jos
