I bought Mudflaps for my RSV today. I want to mount them but dont have any idea where to start. They have 2 holes in them to mount but I do not want to drill holes in the fender. How did you install yours and how secure are they. I really dont want to lose them.

I bit the bullet and drilled the hole. I got leather mudflaps and didn't want to lose them. I bought nice bolts and drilled one hole, I was going to drill more but this works and they are on good.

I really don't know but I think (dealer installed) they used the same holes from the trim piece. Not sure, I'll have to check.:confused24:

Tartan Terror,

Wether it be on the front or rear, you have to remove the rear chrome piece on each fender.

Being that I do not know how thick the mud flap is that you are installing, you should perform a quick check and place it between the chrome piece and the fender holding it in place, and then see if the holes of the chrome piece still line up...with thte holes in the fender. sometimes, if the mud flap is real thick, the chrome piece mounting screws will not go back in because the thickness of the flap moves the chrome piece towards the aft (rear) of the cycle....

I strongly suggest you bite the bullet and drill two small holes (one on each side of the rear fender and one on each side of the front fender) to mount the mud flap so that you do not loose it. When yuo reinstall the chrome piece the mud flap also getws wedged between the chrome piece and fender, but that by itself is not strong enough of a hold to avoid loosing the mud flap.

You will need to use small screws where the head of the screw is not too large or it too will hold the chrome piece from setting back in its normal place and again the chrome piece mounting screws will not line up in the fender..

IF, you get the mud flap on, and then find that the mounting screws for the chrome piece do not line back up, you can open the holes IN THE FENDER to the next larger size. You will not be able to see them anyway after you replace the chrome piece.

DO NOT drill holes in the chrome piece for any reason...

I used two 10/32 screws with flat washers on the flap side and lock washers with nut on the inside of the fender to hold my mud flap on.

The chrome piece was just a little hard to line back up, but not that bad of a task. I did not have to open the fender holes to next larger size..

Hey Tartan, Eck is correct. I just looked at mine and they actually have 2 nuys and bolts near the outside of the flaps and are hidden under the chrome trim piece,:thumbsup2:

Sorry Guys no pictures yet but I got the Flaps on. I guess I kind of cheated but they went on really easy. First I took the chrome trim off the front and rear fender. then I placed the mudflaps on the rear and front fenders where they would sit and marked the flaps to line them up. After that I cut the remainder off leaving a lip to attach the flap so that there wasnt alot of material under the fender to catch dirt. I then drilled 5 holes in each fender and through the flap (3/16) and use long rivets. Use a large backing washer so that the head of the rivet dont pull through the flap. Replace Chrome trim. When the trim is back on the heads of the rivet is covered and unseen and the flap is very secure. They look great being as the flaps match the rest of the leather on the bike.
