I had tried to call him a couple of times but couldn't catch him. He is busy but I think I might finally be getting somewhere. He said he will look at it this week. Dan, Could this be a sign from God ?? Can't even get this guy there to take your down payment, let alone work on it. Run, Forest, Run !! Gary
Yammer Dan Posted September 27, 2011 Author #277 Posted September 27, 2011 If this one don't work I'm doing it myself.
Carbon_One Posted September 27, 2011 #278 Posted September 27, 2011 Hey Dan if you have to do it yourslep you might contact the local high school for some hired labor. Lots of kids don't have jobs after school so you just might get a couple that's willing to work and maybe learn something in the process. You'll get help needed, they'll get some spending money and maybe learn a trade. Or post something for hired help on a local want ad board? You already know how the job has to be done. Just a thought here to help you getr done. Larry

Stache Posted September 27, 2011 #280 Posted September 27, 2011 Taking that idea one step further, you could offer the job to a high school shop class or trades college as a project. You pay for materials, provide mentoring. Use specialized sub-contractors where regulatory requires it. You get a garage, the school gets a project, the kids get a grade.....
Guest tx2sturgis Posted September 27, 2011 #281 Posted September 27, 2011 Yall all need sell the houses/garages/barns/lots, and then get rid of the tractors/sidecars/pooltables/logsplitters/vendingmachines/slotcar tracks/meat slicers, and go rent a cute little studio apartment in a trendy young neighborhood, and watch the gals in bikinis at the pool while you sip on a wine cooler. Or at least...DREAM that you did.
Yammer Dan Posted September 27, 2011 Author #282 Posted September 27, 2011 I just dream of the girls in bikinis in my garage. And then the Warden wakes me up!!!
Yammer Dan Posted September 28, 2011 Author #283 Posted September 28, 2011 I got the corners squared up today. Progress!!
Yammer Dan Posted September 28, 2011 Author #285 Posted September 28, 2011 Me and camera ain't getting along very well. Pics are on camera card. I think. Probally going to stay there.
Yammer Dan Posted September 28, 2011 Author #286 Posted September 28, 2011 With the mess I have. Footers not square and not right dimensions. It would be the time to make it a little bigger. Now where have I heard that before. Standing inside of the square once I got the corners squared up it just don't look big enough for a Pickem -up a car and 7 or was that 8 bikes!! Hope this guy wants to work.
Yammer Dan Posted September 28, 2011 Author #287 Posted September 28, 2011 here are the blasted pics!!!
Flyinfool Posted September 28, 2011 #288 Posted September 28, 2011 Your right, that looks pretty small, you better make it bigger.........

Hows that new contractor working out for you. Ya know, those meth heads down the street might be more reliable than your past employees, and they probably can work long hours with little sleep, just a few extra smoke breaks. Gary
FuzzyRSTD Posted September 28, 2011 #292 Posted September 28, 2011 Thanks for the pictures Yammer. They don't open up to be able to see them larger, but that is a start. Thanks ............ Fuzzy
Yammer Dan Posted September 28, 2011 Author #293 Posted September 28, 2011 I threw that camera in the trash can. Warden got it out again. Then she posted the pics!!! New contractor looked at it this evening. Claims I really got screwed. Wanting to do unecessary stuff to make it work. I'm probally going to end up doing it myself.
Yammer Dan Posted September 28, 2011 Author #294 Posted September 28, 2011 (edited) Measuring across corner to corner on a rectangular footer if your measurments come out the same it is square. Right?? Mine is 1 ft off. Metal Building I was planning on sitting on top of footer must have exact foundation to sit on. This guy is wanting to redig footers and repour. ????? Yes those are holes. More chipped block than I want to count. Maybe I am stupid but if you do chip a block (and it does happen) wouldn't you turn the chip to the inside? He used no headers in the footer for stepdowns. Must have cut 100 block doing the house because his footers there were not level. He had to carve block to make them fit. Mortar joints not filled. I should have shot him!! FuzzyRSTD Posted September 28, 2011 #295 Posted September 28, 2011 Well I was wondering if the last contractor had showed. Sounded like good ideas from Stache and Carbon One. Might be something you would look into, that is if you live close enough to a high school or a vocational school. If not Yammer, I would still go with a good contractor. There should be people looking for work right now, you would think. You don't want to hurt yourself Yammer, and I am afraid that is what you might do. I planed my build while off from work for knee surgery. Thinking I would at least be there to oversee things. Well I could not stand around and ended up helping some. I almost ended up back in the hospital by over doing it. It would not be worth injuring yourself and being laid up in the hospital Yammer. Just hang in there and get someone else to do it. If the fellow did not suit you this evening, just tell him what you want and go from there. If he don't like it, then get someone else. I know it is a headache fooling with all this. I wish I lived closer to give you a hand in finding someone. Good luck Yammer. I am not sure how far away you are, but there are some very good Amish groups that have a very good name over in Flemingsburg, KY. James

I could see him pouring one end and straighten/square it. But not the whole thing, unless you want bigger, then just one/two more sides.
Yammer Dan Posted September 29, 2011 Author #297 Posted September 29, 2011 I had figured out a plan to salvage what I had and I know it will work. He don't want to listen. I thought I was supposed to be the employer. Word is he does great work but?? Only his way I guess.
eagleeye Posted September 29, 2011 #298 Posted September 29, 2011 there are some very good Amish groups that have a very good name over in Flemingsburg, KY. This is maybe the best idea I've heard yet. Good luck Dan, Steve

Yammer Dan Posted September 29, 2011 Author #300 Posted September 29, 2011 Been a long time since I done this stuff. I know if if you measure a square across corner to corner when your measurements are the same it is square. Right?? If you have rectangle footer you just measure cross corner to cross corner in a x pattern on the long sides and it should come out the same to be square. Right?
