Yammer Dan Posted November 24, 2011 Author #402 Posted November 24, 2011 Nice start for a 1st Gen!! I haven't quit but not sure I want to pour concrete before spring now.
KB2RWW Posted November 24, 2011 #403 Posted November 24, 2011 Hey Dan....I might have found a contractor for you....he has experience building garages too! Here is some of his work. I may want to hier him! My drive way oddly enough has the same pitch but with a 30' landing at the top befor starting the garage.
Yammer Dan Posted November 25, 2011 Author #404 Posted November 25, 2011 Little ice and that would be fun!!
Yammer Dan Posted November 25, 2011 Author #405 Posted November 25, 2011 It is hard to believe I can't find anybody to do this thing. I live WAY out in the sticks and some of then just don't want to travel to do it. Its about to get put on the back burner til Spring. But if I can find some body I would still do it. Just don't like pouring concrete in cold weather. Hasn't been cold enought to bother it so far but with my luck as soon as I pour it will freeze.
Yammer Dan Posted December 2, 2011 Author #406 Posted December 2, 2011 Got a couple more phone numbers.....
FROG MAN Posted December 2, 2011 #407 Posted December 2, 2011 Dan we have a new breed of contractors today. They specialize in Pay only NO WORK.
CaptainJoe Posted December 2, 2011 #408 Posted December 2, 2011 Ya better have front wheel drive on that first gen...
Yammer Dan Posted December 8, 2011 Author #409 Posted December 8, 2011 I walked out and looked at the garage site today. These little white things were flying around in the air...
Redneck Posted December 8, 2011 #410 Posted December 8, 2011 Dan I'm sorry to see you are having so much trouble getting a shop built. Let me see if I can give you a few pointers. Before you have a contractor come out hide all those first gens, when they see all those antique plastic scooters they think you are mentally unstable aka crazy. They don't want to deal with crazy people. second Bath (use soap) and for god sake brush your tooth. Before you hire a contractor check with the BBB to see if they have a good reputation. Sorry I could not resist I'm going back to my corner now.
Yammer Dan Posted December 8, 2011 Author #411 Posted December 8, 2011 Gee thanks Redneck. Where ya been hiding at. Now I know what not to do!!!!
Yammer Dan Posted December 13, 2011 Author #412 Posted December 13, 2011 Had one turn me down today. Said he was just too busy. At least he told me that without dragging it out.
Flyinfool Posted December 13, 2011 #413 Posted December 13, 2011 You certainally can not fault someone that is upfront and honest. But it still sucks. Around here I don't think anyone is to busy for any job.
Yammer Dan Posted December 14, 2011 Author #414 Posted December 14, 2011 I've been doing a little at a time. Form is almost ready. Pouring it is more than I will be able to handle.
Yammer Dan Posted December 17, 2011 Author #415 Posted December 17, 2011 Son from Georgia coming in for X-Mass. Maybe get a little work out of him.
Yammer Dan Posted December 24, 2011 Author #416 Posted December 24, 2011 Son and I checked out site today. I'm ready to start framing up myself. Just need warmer weather now. Might be Spring.
Guest Posted December 24, 2011 #417 Posted December 24, 2011 Wow, the economy must really be great up there that contractors can turn down jobs. I had 3 estimates on replacing my driveway all within a few days. Contractor is starting 2nd week in Jan.
Skid Posted December 24, 2011 #418 Posted December 24, 2011 At the rate you're gaining on your garage, I'll have electric in mine first.
Yammer Dan Posted December 24, 2011 Author #419 Posted December 24, 2011 I Have the stuff to put electric in mine:whistling:
Flyinfool Posted December 24, 2011 #420 Posted December 24, 2011 I Have the stuff to put electric in mine:whistling: Isn't a wall to hang the rest of the "stuff" on part of the stuff that is needed to have electric in the garage??? Just wondering.
Yammer Dan Posted December 24, 2011 Author #421 Posted December 24, 2011 No I can put power out there without walls and just wait for Santa to drop the garage over everything...... But you got to believe!! Hey thats about as good a chance as I have of seeing a garage out there. COME ON FAT MAN!!!
Yammer Dan Posted December 26, 2011 Author #422 Posted December 26, 2011 Fat Man didn't leave garage!!! Loosing faith in him!!!
MLCRIDER Posted December 26, 2011 #423 Posted December 26, 2011 Sorry the fat man let you down, I have an idea for you, go to a local truss plant or lumber yard ask about pre fab walls, I manage a truss plant & we build walls in sections deliver them to site 2 guys can set them 3 is better we build 12 to 20' sections depending what the customer wants deliver them to the site with the trusses an in couple hours you could have the walls standing ready for trusses, hope the New Year gets your the garage built. John
FROG MAN Posted December 26, 2011 #424 Posted December 26, 2011 Maybe Fatman rides a Fatboy. Thinking garages are for Harleys only. Looks like another winter with First Gens in the cold.
Yammer Dan Posted December 26, 2011 Author #425 Posted December 26, 2011 I could trade some pills!! Probally get it done tomorrow!!!
