firestik antenna install question

I am installing the firestik firefly 3foot antennas in place of the stock ones. After searching the other antenna related threads, I have a question: Instead of replacing all the wiring and the antenna mounts, Is it possible to just drill out the antenna mount and rethread it to the correct thread to match the antenna and just screw the firestik into the mount?

I'd do this on both sides. Then just have the CB antenna tuned to the system. I already bought all the components to change everything over.

But if it is possible then maybe it could save someone else some money.

It is possible, but it's hard to find the adapter.
