Very noise clutch I believe

Recommended Posts

Hi Im new here. I just bought my first bike and have noticed a noise from the right hand side of the bike. I happens when Im in neutral with the clutch handle released. If you squeeze the handle it will go away. I rode from Lansing to St Ignace yesterday and it seemed to get a litle noisier than it has been for the last couple of weeks. I did take it in to my local dealer and they told me it was the clutch basket rattling and not to worry about it. Well as of the 28th of this month the warranty is over on my bike. Well I am kind of worried about it. Any help on this would be great. Do i force them to fix something they cant fix or should I ride it:mytruck1:until this happens. Oh this is a 2006 Yamaha Venture 1300.

Specifically what does the noise sound like?

My advice is to make them fix it while it is still on warranty as IMHO, it should not "rattle".

A whine seems to be normal, a rattle is not normal. maybe consider a different dealer.

I had a bit of a rattle on my '85 ... same thing... when stopped and in neutral, it had this "rattling" sound... pull the clutch in and it would stop. Weird tho as it wouldn't do it all the time. I never did do anything about it but certainly, I would get it looked at when it's still under warranty and definately try a different dealer if not getting any satisfaction at the current one.

I have the same intermittent clutch noise in my 85 too, but its not really a rattle its deeper than that, but if it was under warranty you can bet it would be in getting looked at.

A lot of these bikes have a whine or chirp but mine is when its moving and at specific speeds. Rattles are not normal. One thing is, sounds heard on this bike may be coming from anywhere. The fairing will reflect sound from the back and make it sound like it in the front or beside you. Check along the rear fender by the saddlebags for loose bolts. Its a common problem on these bikes and could be the source of your rattle.
