jer878 Posted June 26, 2011 #1 Posted June 26, 2011 Changed the oil on my new to me 08 Wing @ just over 2000 on the OD. What a PIA, having to remove the lower front fairing just to change the oil and is it tight down there. I'll still take the Wing over the RSV though, just for the more balanced feel. I'll be sending my seat to Rick to get the Butt Butler over this next winter I feel like I'm sliding forward or my pants are sliding backward, needs a little bit of a bucket carved out of it. There have been a couple of good reviews here and on one of the GW sites. I was pleased with the work he did on my RSV seat, just wish I was closer to TX. Just a little info and opinion. Jim
Tom Posted June 26, 2011 #2 Posted June 26, 2011 I changed mine, appx15 minutes. No need to remove cowling. I bought a filter wrench from wingstuff that also has the wrench onopposite end to take off drain plug. Anytime you need OK to call and I will try and help. Also had Rick do my seat. Great Job!

I got the same wrench magnetic plug and 10 pack of washers, but I was following the instructions in the manual. In about 3000 miles I'll try it without removing the cowl. Thanks
dray Posted June 26, 2011 #4 Posted June 26, 2011 I do not remove the cowl and I use a end cap wrench with a ratchet wrench works great fast and easy did not buy anything to change the oil in the wing already had the tools to change the oil and I even reused the crush washer OH MY!!!
Scooter Bob Posted June 26, 2011 #5 Posted June 26, 2011 Having heard horror stories of folks with VSTARS having to remove exhaust and engine covers and what not to change the oil, That's the first thing I asked about when looking to switch from HD to the RSV. The RSV is a sweet set up for an oil change for sure. 1 drain pan can catch the filter and the sump!
Eck Posted June 26, 2011 #6 Posted June 26, 2011 As Tom and others have said...no need to remove lower cowl.. I use my hand for turning filter and a box wrench for oil plug.. no need to wrench the oil filter on real tight. when it bottoms out turn by hand 3/4 turn and it never leaks or comes off until you want to take it off, then you can use your hand to turn it and take it back off. Sometimes a litle UMPH is required, but it will come off...
