midnight ryder Posted June 24, 2011 #1 Posted June 24, 2011 Thanks for all of your help. Is there a device to hold the rpms steady when syncing the carbs. When you are doing it by yourself, there should be a throttle clamp of some sort or some way to keep precise rpms. Thanks again Midnight ryder:cool10::cool10:
MiCarl Posted June 24, 2011 #2 Posted June 24, 2011 When you're syncing you're moving the throttle plates on the carbs. That will change the idle speed. Short of some automated mechanism on the idle stop screw you're out of luck.
Freebird Posted June 24, 2011 #3 Posted June 24, 2011 You can raise it though by just turning in on the idle screw. It's a black screw on the left side of the tank. You can turn it with your fingers.

Freebird Posted June 24, 2011 #5 Posted June 24, 2011 Yea...that's what I meant...the other left.... Sorry, it is on the right side. My wife is out of town so I had no body to ask which hand it was.
midnight ryder Posted June 24, 2011 Author #6 Posted June 24, 2011 :cool10:I mean something to hold the rpms at 2500 -3000 isn't that the right rpm to syn. Thanks Larry:cool10:

When doing the sync, you MUST blit the throttle after each time you touch one of the screws so the linkages can re-set from whatever change the screwdriver pressure did. Goose

Freebird Posted June 24, 2011 #9 Posted June 24, 2011 Yea, a think the book says 1,000 RPM if I'm not mistaken and that is pretty much at idle. I actually run my idle a bit lower than that so I crank mine up just a bit when I'm synching the carbs.
