I just switched out the OEM bolts with hex headed bolts. Drilled a hole in head of them and placed split rings like they use for key rings.

LOL!!!! That's a good one! Split rings more than likely made in China, so assuming that they are metric already.

But I still couldn't do the mod.:confused24:

 

I've only got American number and letter and fraction drills, no metric ones.:bang head:

Don't worry Bob, scooter on down to the hardware store and get yourself a "metric" Crescent wrench. Than should take care of it.
