silverdeer0454 Posted June 17, 2011 #1 Posted June 17, 2011 Just got word from my siblings in Maine. My Mom's oncologist said her fight with stage 4 lung cancer may be coming to an end in the next few months. The cancer has spread to her liver and she is losing weight rapidly. The doctor told my Dad it's time to contact Hospice and make some final plans. Last week we were able to celebrate my parents 55th anniversary with all of her family. Close to 60 family members, including all 6 kids, spouses, grand children, and great grand children were able to attend. Mom told the doctor that this was all she was waiting for. My brothers, sisters, and myself only wish to pass along one thing: If you smoke, please, please stop before it's too late.
Tom Posted June 17, 2011 #2 Posted June 17, 2011 Quit in 1984. Our Prayers are with you and the Family.
Kregerdoodle Posted June 17, 2011 #3 Posted June 17, 2011 Very sorry to hear this, but so glad that the whole family had a chance to get together with her and fullfill her dream... I lost both parents to cancer, it is not easy dealing with it, as you know. Our thoughts and Prayers are with your mom and you and your Family.
jld1960tx Posted June 17, 2011 #5 Posted June 17, 2011 I am so sorry for you and your family. We lost my father to cancer in 1981. I will be praying for you and your family and hope for the best possible outcome. Cherish the time left and enjoy your family.
Trader Posted June 17, 2011 #7 Posted June 17, 2011 I lost my Mum to lung cancer in September. She had quit smoking about 20 years ago but she also had developed bronchitis and emphisimah (sp?) Thankfully, she enjoyed life to the full and died 2 days after coming home from a 2 week vacation in Nova Scotia with close friends. Not sure if it was the cancer or her heart gave out in her weakened condition...but it was relatively quick and painless. I only hope the same is true for your Mum. It's a difficult time but that is the reality of the world we live in. Good friends can make a bad time tolerable.
friesman Posted June 17, 2011 #8 Posted June 17, 2011 Make sure you make the most of the time you have left with her and reminisce the good times and fun times with her. My thoughts are with you and you mom. Brian
Caveman Posted June 17, 2011 #10 Posted June 17, 2011 Sorry to hear of this. She and your family have our prayers for peace and comfort. Carl
yamtom Posted June 17, 2011 #11 Posted June 17, 2011 I quit in sixty six, now if I could just ease off on the chowing ! My best wishes to your Mom and family, for all of your comfort and peace of mind. My own Mom is ailing, no cancer yet, and still has a lot of moxie left in her.
Hobscotch Posted June 17, 2011 #12 Posted June 17, 2011 Understand your situation. Been there with my mother. Prayers are on there way. Steve

Condor Posted June 17, 2011 #18 Posted June 17, 2011 We lost my wife's father to lung cancer. He was a smoker. 7 years later we lost her mom to the same type cancer and she never smoked a day in her life. Second hand smoke does kill.... Prayers to you, your mom, and your family.
silverdeer0454 Posted June 27, 2011 Author #20 Posted June 27, 2011 Thanks for all the prayers and wishes. My Mom is now in NYC with my Dad, my sister, and 2 brothers. One of my brothers worked at Ground Zero for a couple of weeks after 9/11; at the time he was an iron worker. They are helping Mom with her Bucket List: Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Central Park, Ellis Island, Times Square, and the Empire State building. Later in the week they are going to the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut to hit the casino.
cortalan Posted June 27, 2011 #21 Posted June 27, 2011 Nearly every relative I've ever lost was taken by some form of cancer....including my mother. It's tough.....my prayers go out for you and your family, and especially for your mother.
Freebird Posted June 27, 2011 #22 Posted June 27, 2011 I'm so sorry to hear this. I've seen way too much of that dreaded disease over the past few years and sincerely know the affect that is has watching somebody who is fighting it. I wish I had some words to comfort you in this time of need but I always struggle to find the right ones. Just know that you, your mom and family are in our prayers.
LilBeaver Posted June 28, 2011 #23 Posted June 28, 2011 Sorry to hear this Larry. Prayers and thoughts out to you, your family and close friends.
