Sideoftheroad Posted June 17, 2011 #26 Posted June 17, 2011 Really want a smokey and the bandit car. '77 TA Here is another one I really like. Not surprised Sr. bought one. Not bad for a guy who runs a company that supposedly worth anything. http://transamdepot.com/ YearOne made one too http://www.yearone.com/yodnn/Portals/yodnn/Home/tabid/54/Default.aspx
SilvrT Posted June 17, 2011 #27 Posted June 17, 2011 I wasn't as fortunate as some of you guys were with the "hot" cars but I did have a '58 Chev Impala Convertible back in '68/69. It was a US model with a 348 in it. The stock tranny crapped and I put a 2 speed powerglide in. Had a continental kit on the back... car was black with a red & white interior.... paid all of $350 for it in spring of '68. Prolly worth 35 grand for one of those now LOL Still have a pic of it but that's on my home PC.
svensd Posted June 17, 2011 #28 Posted June 17, 2011 You've started something here.... I was a Ford guy, also teen in the 60's. I sold my '68 California Special at Barrett Jackson last year - not sorry though; I was afraid to park it anywhere it might get scratched, etc. Am sorry I sold the '68 Cougar 428 though. Sven
Oldseadog Posted June 17, 2011 #29 Posted June 17, 2011 I had a '68 Ford Fairlane 500 fastback 390, C6 back in the mid 70s. I thought I was really something until a '70 Charger shut me down good. After I blew the tranny Dad said the 390 was too big for me so he put in a 302. He sold the car when I joined the Navy.
svensd Posted June 17, 2011 #30 Posted June 17, 2011 The 390 was considered a Galaxie engine, which is why they came out with the 427/8. The original Bullitt car ('68 Mustang fastback w/390) could not keep up with the Charger and suspension had to be highly modified to handle the jumps. The Charger was stock 440, if I remember correctly. "Just sayin...":)
KarlS Posted June 17, 2011 #31 Posted June 17, 2011 I grew up a Mopar nut. Had a 71 Demon with the 340 "wedge" motor. Second gear in the shifter broke and couldn't get any carter or hurst shifter to fit. Finally called "Direct Connection Dodge" and gave them the serial numbers of the car. Found out it was 1 of 145 built with that motor, trans, rear end and factory headers combination. The shifter rebuild kit cost 3 times what any Hurst shifter cost at the time. Never have seen one like mine at any car show. Lived in Flint and went to college in Lansing (about 60 miles one way) and complained it cost me $5.00 a day in gas.
