Freebird Posted June 15, 2011 #1 Posted June 15, 2011 I stopped by to see a customer today in Knox, PA. While talking, I noticed a picture of a '68 Plymouth Roadrunner convertible on the wall beside his desk. I asked him if that was one that he wished he had kept and he said...Heck...I still have it. Turns out that he is a big Mopar fan. He asked if I wanted to see some old cars and of course I did. We ended up walking through 3 buildings full of early to late 60 Mopars and a couple of early 70 models. This was a very nice guy dressed in Dickie's work clothes and you would think that he was just any regular guy but he had probably close to a million dollars worth of cars in those buildings. Not junk...NICE cars. Most were in very nice original condition or very lightly restored. He had 2 Roadrunner convertibles, 2 beautiful Superbirds, a number of early sixty Satellites, 300's, etc. A couple of early 70 Challengers and several other great cars. All had original engines and most were 383, 440, etc. It was a real treat to walk through and see the cars, sit in them and remember the muscle cars from my teen years. You just never know what you are going to run into.
dogman Posted June 15, 2011 #2 Posted June 15, 2011 Wow that sounds like a great day. I'm glad to hear you spoke up when you saw the picture.
stroker ace Posted June 15, 2011 #3 Posted June 15, 2011 COOL I like the old mopars, I've had a few over the years. One of my favorites I had was a 1970 Dodge Coronet 500 with a 440 and a 4 speed, wish I still had it.
Freebird Posted June 15, 2011 Author #6 Posted June 15, 2011 YES...my TEEN years...HEY...I'm not as old as I look. I graduated from high school in 1973 so those were the cars that I grew up with.
BuddyRich Posted June 15, 2011 #7 Posted June 15, 2011 (edited) I had a 73 Barracuda. Baby blue with white seats. Got t-boned at a traffic light in Richardson TX. IT was totaled . That was a good car, even had AC in it. http://www.holtautosales.com/inventory/C73_1973_Baracuda_Blue/P1010302.jpg http://www.holtautosales.com/inventory/C73_1973_Baracuda_Blue/P1010345.jpg Edited June 15, 2011 by BuddyRich
Yammer Dan Posted June 15, 2011 #8 Posted June 15, 2011 Those were my favorites!! 1st one was a 63 Dodge 440 with police package. It was never messed up with stickers or lights and it was a standard shift. Black with red interior!! Beautiful Car. I pulled the 3 speed and put in a 4 with Hurst shift kit and changed the 4 barrel to 3 Duces. I was never outrun in that thing and I took on all that wanted to try. Even took one of the big Vettes but that boy just couldn't drive. I would give anything to have that one back.
Snaggletooth Posted June 15, 2011 #9 Posted June 15, 2011 They would have had to follow me with a mop to clean up the drool. Those were the cars of my teen years to. Wish I still had a few of the old toys tucked away. Value has gone up a bit more than anybody ever expected. LOL!
BigBoyinMS Posted June 15, 2011 #10 Posted June 15, 2011 Lucky man! I would have a permanent grin from that tour. I was always a GM guy (drove a '70 SS Chevelle in H.S) but the few Mopars I did see always caught my eye. Would LOVE to have a '70 Super Bee 440 with the pistol grip 4-speed.
Eck Posted June 15, 2011 #11 Posted June 15, 2011 Had a light Green 69 Road Runner...440, ram air induction, 4 speed.. loved it.. Wish I still had it..ya think..
GAWildKat Posted June 16, 2011 #12 Posted June 16, 2011 It's sad when you guys talk about these old cars and I got to ride in a few...Dad once was a part owner in a dealership....then Freebird mentions he graduated HS in 73.....I was born in 74...great way to make a girl feel old ppl! sheesh

One of my favorites I had was a 1970 Dodge Coronet 500 with a 440 and a 4 speed, wish I still had it. I had a '70 Coronet R/T convertible, 440, 4 speed, 6 Pac. Drove it 3 years and sold it to a kid who worked for me in the Navy. Just another car.....sigh. I found out a few years ago that they made 16 Coronet R/T convertibles....4 with 6 packs and 4 speeds.
adventurer 08 Posted June 16, 2011 #14 Posted June 16, 2011 I bought brand new in 68 when i was 18 a 1968 Chevelle ss 396 375hp with a munice 4 speed and a posi rear end for $3200. Boy i miss that car.

Freebird Posted June 16, 2011 Author #17 Posted June 16, 2011 I've had a lot of cars over the years that I would like to have back. A couple of '69 Camaros, a '73 Chevelle SS 454, a 72 Buick Gran Sport 455 and several others but my all time favorite was my '74 Challenger. It was only a 318 but I loved that car. I guess if I had to choose only one to have back that would be it.
adventurer Posted June 16, 2011 #18 Posted June 16, 2011 I'm starting over with 86 & 87 firebirds. the 87 is a trans am
DragonRider Posted June 16, 2011 #19 Posted June 16, 2011 My favorite car was the very first brand new car I bought, a 1971 Dodge Charger. Great car, not a muscle car, had a 318, but it was the cat's meow for me............sadly I almost totaled it 6 months later........wrapping it around a light pole in the median of the interstate.
Nighthawk II Posted June 16, 2011 #20 Posted June 16, 2011 I bought brand new in 68 when i was 18 a 1968 Chevelle ss 396 375hp with a munice 4 speed and a posi rear end for $3200. Boy i miss that car. I bought mine in 74 light blue/white stripes. Paid 1900 for it and it got totaled while I was at Ft. Bragg. I've seen them sell for 30,000 at shows in Ky. Don't it make you want to
Squidley Posted June 16, 2011 #21 Posted June 16, 2011 I was always a Mopar guy in high school having a couple of them, Chargers and Challengers mostly. The best one I ever owned was a '67 Formula S Barracuda with a 340 3 duces and a Muncie 4 speed, Dana rearend and very fast! I could keep up in the 1/4 mile with the big blocks with that one, best was 11.1 in the quarter, could never break the 10 second mark thought!
Venturous Randy Posted June 16, 2011 #22 Posted June 16, 2011 When I was in High School in 68, I bought a 64 Chevelle, 327 four speed. I later bought a 65 that I put the engine/trans in and it had a 12 bolt 4:10 under it. I had put the interior in it out of a 72 Pontiac Grand Prix that was highback white buckets along with the door panels. That was a white car and real nice. I sure I had kept both of them. RandyA
Lone Eagle Posted June 17, 2011 #23 Posted June 17, 2011 Hey Don, surprised no one has said it yet - ya know the rules here -
Pegasus1300 Posted June 17, 2011 #24 Posted June 17, 2011 What a treat Don. I have always loved those Mopars. When I graduated from High School in 64 I bought a 64 Valient V200 with the 273 V8 with 4 speed.Only a 2 barrel but it was fast.In 1968 I bought a Roadrunner 383 4 speed.I broke it in by driving it from New Orleans to Salt Lake City in less then 24 hrs. The faster it went the better it felt. There was no traffic in 1968 and no cops. Those two I wish I had back but I do still have my 1965 Sport Fury 383 2 barrel automatic.
Freebird Posted June 17, 2011 Author #25 Posted June 17, 2011 Hey Don, surprised no one has said it yet - ya know the rules here - I am surprised that it took this long for somebody to mention that. Sorry friends, I just didn't have my camera with me.
