Orrin Posted December 4, 2007 #26 Posted December 4, 2007 Don, well said. Thanks for all you do. I have some fairly strong politcal views and religous feelings. I try not to share those points of view on this site. It is not the place for these types of discussions. I like others here am offended by discriminatory remarks. Everyone has a point of view. It is OK to share but in the correct venue. Thanks Orrin
royalstarjac Posted December 4, 2007 #27 Posted December 4, 2007 There are plenty of sites on the web to bicker, bit** and flame. Here we share our common love for our machines and biking lifestyle. Thanks Don!-Jack:cool10:
wkboard Posted December 4, 2007 #28 Posted December 4, 2007 Thanks to Freebird and all of the Moderators!!! I like this site, and this site has helped me to love my VR and RSV even more!! Thanks also to all of the members that are willing to help, and to share their experiences. It is so much less painful to read about things than to have to make mistakes and learn it the hard way. I am not politically correct very often, and when I am I apologize. Unfortunately political correctness has become a manipulative tool in our society and is missused by many for their own gain. I am, however, concerned for others and do not want to hurt anyone. I will continue to come here to read, learn, laugh, and help when I can!!
berg Posted December 4, 2007 #29 Posted December 4, 2007 Good job Don this is a great site .I read daily , should probably write more , look foward some day to meeting some of you. About a year ago I bought my first RSTD because of the conversations on this site. This place has been very helpful to my wife and I , riding tips care for the bike and traded parts as well after getting some great advise. Thanks again for all you do.
Bubbajbi Posted December 4, 2007 #30 Posted December 4, 2007 I couldn't agree more with everyone here. This is more than just a website, it is a family and families tend to disagree on occasion. However disagreeing and fighting are two completely different things. Have we as a country completely forgot the meaning of FREEDOM!?!?! Everyone has a right to speak his mind and everone else has a right not to listen. We are all here on one common ground; motorcycles. So we poke fun at each other some times big deal. I would bet that of all the members on this site there are no two who would agree on every single topic. If someone offends you just move on and know that you have probably offended someone else along the way.
kenw Posted December 4, 2007 #31 Posted December 4, 2007 Hey Don, Although I haven't met any of you personally, and I don't post very often, I really like coming to a sight where I can feel at home and is a PG establishment! Maybe its not said enough, but I'm honered to be a member of this site, and thank you for all the hard work! I'm with you 100% Kenw:clap2::clap2:
dragerman Posted December 4, 2007 #32 Posted December 4, 2007 I must say that I agree with all the comments I’ve read here so far. This is what I have come to recognize as the true VR spirit. The only thing I’d like to add is “thank you” and I’m proud to be a part of this wonderful group of friends! Cheers to you all!
StarRider07 Posted December 4, 2007 #33 Posted December 4, 2007 Hi Don. You have done a fantastic job on this site and although I don't particpate very often I do try to come visit as much as I can and will help when I can. I love coming here. It truly bothers me when people waste their energy looking for something to b#!ch about. Guess telling a blonde joke is out of the question. Come on people,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, get a life. It really is sad how things have changed. My wife works in a retail store. The staff there have been told NOT to wish anyone a Merry Christmas because God forbid (oops) someone will be offended. And sorry Don, but if anyone is offened by "God forbid", then leave now!!!!!!! Don, it is of my opinion only, I think people looking for trouble should only be told ONCE that there will be no more warnings. Second time, ACCESS DENIED! Keep up the great work. I hope you don't mind my input. I wish I had more time to spend here and more knowledge to offer more. Greg (Thor)
James Ardrey Posted December 4, 2007 #34 Posted December 4, 2007 I must say that I agree with all the comments I’ve read here so far. This is what I have come to recognize as the true VR spirit. The only thing I’d like to add is “thank you” and I’m proud to be a part of this wonderful group of friends! Cheers to you all! Ditto to this.Great job Don.
Joopster55 Posted December 4, 2007 #35 Posted December 4, 2007 Hi Don & the rest of the great folks on this site. Since joining here 2 weeks ago, I have learned more about my RSV from the other folks on this site than I have from a Yamaha dealer. Even you Don, inviting me to your maintence day in June, I was impressed, but you guys are just very friendly and you make anyone fell welcome. I don't like to talk about politics, religion, sex or stuff like that, because it takes up too much time away from riding or working on my RSV. All you guys and gals and especially you, Don, keep up the great work your doing on this site, and I hope to meet and ride with some of you in the very near future. John.. :bighug:
Yammer Dan Posted December 4, 2007 #36 Posted December 4, 2007 Yep it must be Winter. No posts about Sex, Politics, Religon or anything like that. But now those 2nd Gens are fair game aren't they???? Good one Don I wish I could use words as you do.
Older... Posted December 4, 2007 #37 Posted December 4, 2007 This place is #1 because of all the good people involved from way up top, to way down here with me. Neighborhood watch is a good thing.
newman Posted December 5, 2007 #38 Posted December 5, 2007 Hey Don, Have been using your site for a few years now. LOVE IT! The members here have be so helpful and always right with their recommendations. I have recommended this site to alot of biker buddies. Keep up the great work...... I've learned this from my father many years ago... YOU CAN PLEASE SOME OF THE PEOPLE, SOME OF THE TIME YOU CAN PLEASE MOST OF THE PEOPLE, MOST OF THE TIME BUT YOU CAN'T PLEASE ALL OF THE PEOPLE, ALL OF THE TIME Your doing a wonderful job for a very large biker community and my hats go off to you. I know it's alot of work but your doing one awesome job. Thanks
noahzark Posted December 5, 2007 #39 Posted December 5, 2007 Don, Don't know if your words inspired me or if it's "just the season," but you just conned me out of my first donation. I should have done this sooner with all the help I've received here, but most of it involved spending money and, consequently, I had none left over to . . . Anyway, I appreciate all you're doing here and wanted to say it to your wallet. Thanks.
Freebird Posted December 5, 2007 Author #40 Posted December 5, 2007 Hey....my words...just the season....heck...what difference does it make so long as you GIVE GIVE GIVE. Just kidding of course. It was much appreciated though.
Stanman Posted December 5, 2007 #41 Posted December 5, 2007 RRIGHT ON DON!!! I've only been on here for awhile but already it has become a part of my life that I would not wish to give up. I check here as often as I check my email. I don't have a lot to say yet but occassionally I will give my 2 cents worth. NEVER would I consider intentionally aggrivating someone. Please keep up the good work and I would fully support giving the boot to anyone that cannot tow the line. This is an adult community and as such most people here are acting like adults but unfortunatly sometimes when there are a lot of people involved you run into a few that are not and need to be treated like the children they are. Quality is always much better than quantity. Thank you so much for this place. Wayne I couldn't agree more. This is the greatest site I know; let's all try to keep it that way!
Ky. Rider Posted December 5, 2007 #42 Posted December 5, 2007 Well said. This is the kind of place I like to "hang out" in. I have learned alot about RSV's and enjoy the brotherhood/sisterhood. My support is guaranteed.
Guest muskrat Posted December 5, 2007 #43 Posted December 5, 2007 Your comments are right on target. Only 1 thing you said I would take exception - I don't know why you said it is going to be a long winter ---- we will still be out riding and enjoying the fine weather here in the South. OH, that's right - some of y'all don't live down here - I forgot that. I guess that might qualify as geographic bias. Anyway, well said and we are on board.
Ozmonster Posted December 5, 2007 #44 Posted December 5, 2007 Very well stated, I couldn't agree more. With all the PC BS out there, whatever happened to our ability to determine what we find acceptable on our own, instead of being TOLD by someone else what we should find acceptable. If you don't like something, that's your right, but don't you DARE tell me, how I should feel about it. LEARN TO LOOSEN UP, GET A LIFE AND LAUGH AT YOURSELF!
fixit3546 Posted December 5, 2007 #45 Posted December 5, 2007 I looked like nance56's icon when i first read don's post.......................good thing it didn't stick like that. Don, We will all mess up at times. Even me as hard as that is to believe. But this great group of hard core bikers usually do a pretty good job of working it out. That's what impresses me..............
Dano Posted December 5, 2007 #46 Posted December 5, 2007 You guys are all like the friendly next door neighbor who I can visit with while working on my bike in the driveway or in the garage; always willing to share some helpful advice, a joke, and even some good-natured ribbing. Exactly! Dan
Just-Jack Posted December 5, 2007 #47 Posted December 5, 2007 Don, first of all let me take a moment here to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work and dedication that you and the moderators do behind the scenes to have the best web site that I have ever had the pleasure to call myself a member of. I get teased a lot because Im on the site every day some times 2-5 times a day to see what is going on and I have this site as my number 1 favorite top spot. I have never met a more friendly down to earth place that you can come to share your good days as well as your bad days. I have never seen a family pull together more then this family does when something bad happens and to have some many people want to give with out wanting anything in return. I can not express how greatful and happy that we have found this family and that you and the moderators for creating this place. Jessie and Jack:2132:
royalstarjac Posted December 5, 2007 #48 Posted December 5, 2007 What difference does it make that it's almost winter? Oh, I forgot, some of you poor folks don't get to ride all year!:rotf::rotf:-Jack
Guest KitCarson Posted December 5, 2007 #49 Posted December 5, 2007 I read Don's post and read all your responses, and hey folks you are all missing the point!! . Some on this site are like myself......you can say just anything you wish to say to me......I love friendly banter, something said in a constructive manner, or if you just want to be plain onery, that is okay by me too. You are not going to hurt my feelings. But this is not the point. A day ago........a post appeared by a member, it was titled Bigoted Remarks or something like this. Just ahead of it was a post I still see floating around on this site....titled minorities. In it are a couple of jokes that hidden with-in are some pretty good jabs at Mexicans and other minorities.......it has the Archie Bunker attitude!! I agree that they are harmless jokes.....and Kit also sometimes has the Archie Bunker attitude........but some folks take this serious. They may have had a bad day......one of the children may be in trouble at school.....bad day at work......something.......and even though they know it is a joke..instead of laughing with it.......they turn it around and use it to lash out. My family is of mixed race.........we have dealt with issues in school with the kids....a lot of things.......it does not bother us at all......Sandy and I love life.........are somewhat intelligent(except for me!!) and jokes like on this forum......are fun to us......enjoyed......understood.......and you might just get one back!!!a Some folks take this stuff serious...........I think that is the point. So the request is to watch that kind of stuff. As for the rest of the comments ........ Kit
Freebird Posted December 5, 2007 Author #50 Posted December 5, 2007 Kit, You have it pretty much right. It takes some effort on both sides. I'm not saying that we should entirely abandon any attempts to be politically correct. I'm just saying that it has become WAY too big a deal. It seems that in todays world, you can't say much of anything without making somebody mad. So, I'm simply saying: 1. We should all make our best attempt at trying to NOT be offensive. 2. If somebody does post something that you find offense in, please try to not over react about it. Just move on and realize that it is not usually done with the intent of hurting or offending. Sometimes it's just poor judgment, not thinking something through, differences in backgrounds. Things that society needs to continue working on but not things that we have to try and solve here.
